You folks have been so helpful with the travel tips...here's another question. Can I take a small soft cooler bag with ice packs on the plane, with small containers like yogurt, or would you just stick with small jars and containers of things that don't need to be kept cold? We're flying all the way x-country, so we'll have to adjust if everything has to be at room temp, although I'm sure we could figure something out...I guess we'll just buy whole milk after we get through security.....

Re: taking food for your toddler on a plane

FYI, you should NEVER have to taste the food/formula/milk or open something up. I was told by a TSA officer in San Diego that if someone asks you to taste the food then you should ask to see the supervisor.
I don't know about bringing a cooler with ice packs (not sure if they would allow the gel packs - I would call the airline in advance and ask someone who really knows) but I was able to bring tons of baby food and apple sauce without a problem.
They told me that no bottled water is allowed but you can fill up all of your bottles/sippies and bring those with water already in them. They will run a little machine over them to test them for problematic substances and they will not ask you to drink any of it.
The TSA agents were very nice when I went through, just be prepared for things to take a while and try to travel as lightly as possible.
