Babies: 9 - 12 Months

need to suppliment- anyone use isomil??? (dd= milk allergy)

What are your thoughts/expierences with isolmil or using a soy/non dairy suppliment? DD is very small and GI wants to try suppliments to increase her weight (although she eats like a cow! - she has 3 meals a day, 2 snacks, and I BF 5x a day, she is 11m old). Anyway we can not use pediasure because we also found out that DD has a milk allergy. I know nothing about formula and I plan to continue BFing for a few months as well. Can I mix the isomil with applesauce or oatmeal, etc if she doesnt want to drink it? Do I need to steralize things as if she were a newborn? Any other advice on supplimenting? Neocate was recommended by the GI but the allergist said Isomil would be just as fine, and cheaper.

  • has she been tested for a soy allergy? Many LOs with a milk allergy are also allergic to soy, and generally our allergist tells us that the odds of developing a soy allergy are too risky. We use an amino acid based formula to get E's weight up, and that, along with solids have brought him to the 25% from about 4%.

  • When DD had severe reflux and I had to supplement between breastfeeding her we used Alimentum.  It worked wonders although it is expenisve and smells horrible.  GL!

she's right....ds is allergic to milk and soy, which developed when he was 3m old.....worst time of my entire life (before we knew what was wrong)

  • DS is allergic to both soy and dairy too.  We use Neocate and once he's 12-14 months we will switch him to neocate Jr. which is for toddlers.  I would try alimentum or nutrimigen.  Also, see if your insurance company covers it.  Because of DS's allergies our insurance company covers it until he's a year old.
  • My daughter has a milk allergy and has been on isomil since 2 weeks old.  At the beginning she was breastfed and supplemented with the isomil, then from about 2 months on, strictly isomil.  She has done great on it...she is almost 10 months old now.  Because it is due to an allergy our health insurance pays for the isomil, the doc had to fill out a form and then she was approved.  Good luck to you!!
