I don't think I ever had a stranger pat my belly in my first pregnancy. I was pretty quick with the step-back. This time I was stuck in a FULL elevator. There was no escape. I know people mean well, and it was completely friendly, but come on people! I wanted to say something snarky, but then I'd be stuck face to face with this person for a few floors in uncomfortable silence. I decided to keep quiet.
Ew.
Re: I had my first stranger belly pat yesterday.
That sounds awful! I don't understand how people can think its okay to pat a stranger's pregnant belly! But, then again, these are the same people who think its okay to touch a stranger's baby!
The only one who really pats my belly is my SIL--and I like it. Which is a good thing since she is my labor coach!
) Totally different than a stranger though. . . I'd have kept quiet too in that situation!
THANK YOU! I just had an argument with my brother and had to end up posting a poll on my blog about this very topic. He says that I don't like the belly touch because I'm not really a hugger. I say I don't think most women want their personal space invaded that way.
I really didn't think it would happen to me but I've gotten it 4 times (once from a client that of course doesn't have great boundaries so I was actually ok with that) but other times it has been from 2 licensed therapists (that I know very casually) and 1 stranger! keep your friggin hands off my body!
