Black dress for Easter?

For Easter this year the whole family is going to my Uncle's country club for brunch.  I know it's jacket and tie required for men..  I have two maternity dresses, one is black and the other is blue gingham.  Neither is terribly formal, but I really don't want to buy a formal dress for one occasion.  Would the black dress dressed up with nice shoes and pearls be enough?  Is black okay for Easter or is it weird to not be in spring colors?

Thanks!

Re: Black dress for Easter?

  • If it's an evening affair, I would wear black.  If it's not, I wouldn't wear black.

  • Wear what you have.....Maybe a White hat, gloves, a flower, or a belt can easily break the black up.  I don't think the whole Easter pastels thing applies to adults anyway.
  • I would pair the black dress w/a colored cardigan and colored heels. (Not the same color)
  • Can you put a bright easter cardigan over it? Some funky jewelry other than pearls?
  • Thanks ladies!  I think I'll look for a cardigan, which I know I'll wear again.  I don't really own much jewelry other than pearls because I'm not a big, funky jewelry person... wish I had the guts to wear it but always feel self-conscious in it!  I'll shop for a non-maternity cardigan that I can wear open over the dress and get more wear out of!

  • Some simple gold chain links that are assorted sizes on a long necklace could look awesome.

  • I wore black one year on Easter and it was when I was pg with DS. At that point, it was the only maternity dress I'd bought (for another occassion) and I refused to buy another one. I really wanted to wear black anyway for slimming purposes. God, I was sooo huge. LOL
  • I have a dressy black with white poka dot dress I was going to wear to church on easter.  I thought about it for a while, but I don't have another dress, not even a sundress to wear.  And I don't really want to buy anymore clothes until my bump gets bigger.
