? for people with Endometriosis

If you have endometriosis, my question is: How many laps have you had?  I have stage 1 and had a lap in June 07.  I am wondering if I should have another one and if it can come back in 2 years.  DH and I are going to TTC again next month and sometimes I am beginning to wonder if I need another lap b/c if I don't TTC might be pointless.  After my 1st lap I had 2 failed IUIs.  I just want some other perspectives.  Thanks.

Re: ? for people with Endometriosis

  • I was diagnosed via lap in Jan 08. At the time, the RE said that I needed to get pregnant in 9-12 months, or else the endo would grow back too much. I need to ask him if I need another lap - b/c technically I did get pregnant within that time frame, but m/c.

    good luck!

  • I was diagnosed with Stage II mild endo in Sept 08.  My RE told me I probably wouldn't need another one because it was pretty mild and slow growing.  I got pg the cycle following my lap but it ended in a miscarriage.  The baby was diagnosed with Trisommy 16, completely unrelated to the endo.
  • I had a lap in 1992. The doctor removed endo from my ovary and back of my uterus. I had a laparatomy last month to remove fibroids and the RE removed a small amount of endo from the right ovary. During the 16 years between surgeries, VERY little endo grew back. The endo has most likely not been a reason for our problems ttc.
  • I had a lap in Sept 08. ?I have stage 4 endo, and the RE said we probably had 12-18 months before it came back. ?If I had that long, I would hope that stage 1 would be much less quick to return - so I doubt you need another one. ?

But I'm no RE, so a consult might be a good idea. :)?

  • Yep, consult with the RE.  Mine said 6-9 months for my Stage I endo to possibly affect my fertility again.  I actually started having pain again in Month 3 after the lap so we pushed onto IVF quickly.  Good luck!!
  • I was kind of wondering the same thing.  Another question I will have toask the RE.
