What do you do at a baby shower?

I realize how stupid this may sound, but I've only been to one shower and it was a co-worker shower during a lunch hour so it wasn't a traditional shower.  My MIL is planning to throw me one (I found out) and was wondering what I should expect.  I am nervous because I am not a person who likes to be center of attention, which I know I will be.  So again, I apologize for my lack of knowledge on the subject and for asking a shower question, but I want to know what I am getting into.  TIA.

    Did you have a wedding shower? The typical baby shower is a lot like your typical wedding shower. Food, drinks, games, opening gifts. There are variations on that depending on what you want but that's the general idea.

    And being the center of attention will undoubtedly be unavoidable. You can have your DH there to deflect some of the attention.

    The ones that I have been to/thrown have consisted of gifts, food, cake, chatting, and cheesy games.

    Oh, and if you don't want to be the center of attention, you could ask your MIL to wait and throw the shower after the baby is born. Then the baby will be the center of attention rather than you.

    I'm totally the same about not being the center of attention. I also hate the shower games. Showers can vary by personality, so if you're comfortable you should tell her what you do and don't want. 

    My MIL was actually relieved when I told her I hate shower games!

    We have a strict rule amongst our friends, no stupid shower games.

    We just eat, hang out and open presents.

    i've only been to one shower too.  and it was just like a regular party except with family that i didn't know.  i can't imagine having games or opening presents in front of people - i hated it when i was little!
