I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but....do any of you use a diaper genie or champ for CD's? We just got one as a gift but I really want to CD and I'm hoping I can use it still.
I think most people use just a regular trashcan with a wetbag/liner. I think Diaper Genies have some weird closure that would make them awkward. They're designed to trap in the odor (I think) which isn't an issue with CD.
i use a regular trash can...and if i remember right...girls on here have said that the diaper genie and diaper champ don't work well for cloth diapers...but i can't be 100% on that. i trashcan works great! maybe you can exchange it for something else
Honestly I don't see the need. We have a metal bin with a lid that we put our diapers in after the wet bag is full and sometimes we forget the lid and you NEVER smell the dirty diapers. I've noticed that even the poopest of cloth diapers have no smell compared to disposables.
They're not great for CDs. We started DD in sposies, so we have one of each (one upstairs, one down). Now I'm using the genie without the bags as a can for the cloth diapers, but it's not a great system. Most people will tell you to just get a trashcan with a step and a lid and line it with a liner or pillowcase. The champ is completely useless for CDs
I don't CD yet, being as baby is about 17 weeks away, but I would think the Diaper Champ would be okay since it uses a regular 13 gallon bag. You could just use whatever type of wet bag you wanted in it. The Diaper Genie twists the diapers individually into a special plastic bag, so I'd imagine that that would not work so well for CDs.

We have a diaper genie 2 and I don't think it would work with our CDs. First off, it is designed to use with their plastic bags. I guess you could try to use a cloth liner, but it is hard for me to envision it staying secure and not slipping under the diapers when you put them in. Secondly, I think it is just too small especially with a toddler's larger diapers. It probably would only hold about 8 of our cloth diapers, which is only a day's worth of diapers.
You can make a Diaper Genie work for CDs by not using the bag refill thingies designed for it and affixing a pail liner to the inside of the base. However, I'd wouldn't recommend it. Its not worth the headache.

The diaper champ does not work because there's a plunger type thing where you put the dirty diaper, and then flip the lid. Cloth gets stuck in there, and you end up having to take everything apart to get the diapers into the bag. It's a total PITA. Trust me.
The diaper genie II doesn't do the twisting thing - it's just a push through system (the genie II elite is essentially the same, but with a step lid). I diaperbomb my diapers (we use pockets and fitteds, so they're bulky) and can fit about 14-16 one-size diapers in there, more if I squish it tight - but we wash every other day, so we don't really need to fit more in very often. I imagine I could fit 2 days worth of newborn diapers as well, especially if I were using a mix of pfs and fitteds.
Like I said, it's not a great system, but it works for us. I don't necessarily recommend it, but if you end up stuck (can't return/exchange it or can't sell it on CL), it can work.
We have the genie 2 that we use. We started in sposies, so we used it then too. The diapers are a tight fit going in, but it works just fine. No smell issues. We put a wetbag in it and just fold it out over the top like you would on a regular trash can. There's no twisting in the genie 2 like in the genie 1.
Diaper champy no worky. Some people will tell you that it does but they are still in the tiny baby stage. Once your diapers get bigger they get all jammed up in the plunger or stuck in the loop. You can apparently remove the loop but seriously, why. Just get rid of it and use the money to buy a nice looking garbage can. I have a diaper champ from when we use disposables and it's a HUGE pita.

We use our diaper champ and it works fine... we used sposies for 14 months so we had one, you just have to open it everytime, like if you were gonna empty it...

The Diaper champ does not work for cloth diapers. They are too big and get caught when you turn it over to drop the diaper in the pail. We tried.
The Diaper Genie won't work with CD's, because it individually wraps each diaper. We have the champ, and it works ok. sometimes the cloth gets stuck though, so you have to make sure you wad the CD up really tight before dropping it in.

I have no experience with the diaper champ.

Tales of the Wife
You can make a Champ work for NB diapers, but it won't even work with small CDs, the hole is too small.
Go exchange it for something useful.
The diaper champ def. won't work for prefolds. It might work for pockets or AIOs.
But the PPs are right - it's not worth it. Just return it for a store credit and use that money for something else.
