I may get flamed for this but like say you stop at a gas station to get a drink or something. Would you lock LO in the car to step into the station or would you get him/her out of the car and take the carrier in. Just to run in? I never thought about this until the post below where the mom got arrested...
Re: So when you stop at a gas station do you take LO inside?
EFLO, what happened to you?? You were either a pregnant genius or this baby has stolen all your mojo!
No more silly questions!!! I demand it!!!
This is what I do and if I want something to drink I go through a drive thru but I used to just stop at the gas station and never even thought about having a baby in the car!
I dont even lock my dogs inside a hot car..of couse I would take him in!
I always take him with. Not because I want to, it's a pain unloading everything fifty times a day.
I HATE picking up the kids from school, because I have to get Morgan out of the car just to walk 5 feet, retrieve my child, and then buckle everyone back up for the umpteen time that day. Grrrrr.
It's called lack of sleep and I'm deprived of any adult interaction these days
I remember Dr Phil had a show about this a couple months ago. A mom got arrested for leaving her infant in the car while she took her older 2 children 20 feet away to donate to a salvation army santa guy. The infant was sleeping, it was hailing outside and the mom could see the car the entire time. A security guard saw it all happen and called the police.
The charges eventually got dropped, but the whole thing sparked a huge debate on Dr Phil. He asked people in the audience their opinions... one lady said that she would never never never never (yes she actually said the word like 5 times) ever leave her child in the car alone, even for a second. Dr. Phil's response was pretty good. He used the scenario of pulling up to one of those sidewalk mailboxes (ya know the big blue ones that you drop your mail into). He asked her that if she was having to drop off mail and saw one of those boxes and pulled up to the curb, would she just get out real quick and put the piece of mail in the box, or would she get out, unstrap the child, carry the child to the curb with you, then put the child back and get back in the car. The lady said she would take the child out!!! YEAH RIGHT!! She said in no situation is it ok to leave the child in the car unattended. So what about when you're going to the store, and you need to get the stroller out of the trunk? Do you go and take your child out first, set them on the ground and THEN get the stroller out?
In regards to the OP... I would say it would depend what kind of gas station it was. At least where I live, most of the gas stations are pretty big. So, leaving DD in the car while running in to get a drink would be about the same as going into the grocery store. However, there are those small little mom and pop stations where there are maybe 2 or 4 pumps and the store part isn't that far away. In that case, I probably would leave her and run in. As long as I could physically see the car the entire time I would feel safe.
There is no comparison between a parent getting a stroller out of the trunk vs. leaving a baby unattended in a car while going into a store.
seriously?!? i would be more afraid to leave him alone at those! no security cameras. and you can't tell me that while you are picking out your drink and paying that you are constantly looking at your car. that's a big fat fail IMO
Let me add... if it's a hot day and the car is going to heat up, then of course I wouldn't leave DD. That is just plain stupid.
I feel bad if I leave my DD in my own driveway with the door locked if I have to grab something right inside the door of my house. ?In fact, I got her out of the backseat and brought her back in with me. ?I think I'm a little paranoid. ?I live in a really safe area. ?Oh well. ?Better safe than sorry.
I would never, ever leave her in the car to get a drink at a gas station-big or small. ?If the weather was so bad I didn't want to get her out, I would go without the drink.?
If you actually read what I wrote, I wasn't comparing those two. I was comparing getting the stroller out with walking to the curb to put something in the mailbox. Open your eyes.
How come everyone on here is such a know it all? How do you know that every single one of those mom and pop gas stations don't have security cameras?? Seriously!?!? I know for sure that the one right down the street from my house has security cameras. And no, I wouldn't be staring at my car every single second, but definitely ever 2 or 3 seconds. hehe I'm not a complete idiot, I would be very aware of some stranger was anywhere near my car and opening the door and unbuckling DD and taking her.
The only time I've left dd in the car is to run back into the house to grab something - the doors were locked, and I was back in 20 seconds. That's fine IMO, but I can see how some wouldn't do that.
Oh, and DH and I left her sleeping once at the bank. We went to the ATM which was about 5 feet from the car, and the temp. outside was fine.
sorry, but when you know someone whose child was kidnapped due to thinking JUST LIKE THIS, why take the risk. and that still doesn't negate the fact that it's illegal. but hey, at least you are admitting that you are somewhat of an idiot. that's step 1 right?
I misunderstood your line of thinking then, but based on your defensiveness, it's quite obvious we can't have an adult conversation about this.
1. It is illegal
2. Why is thie even a question?
3. IT IS ILLEGAL.
