Transitioning to a toddler bed

I am wondering when you transitioned your DC to a toddler bed?  I feel much better having DS "contained" in his crib and wonder when we put him in a toddler bed, if he will have a harder time going to sleep because he will be able to get out and walk around his room?  Sometimes when I put him in at night, he does stand up in his crib and hang out for a bit before laying down to sleep.  He sleeps on a cot at school with no problem, but I am not sure the same will hold true at home.  What has been your experience?

Thanks!!!

Re: Transitioning to a toddler bed

  • You're not alone :) My DS when he's up in his crib, he constantly sticks his legs thru the slats and gets them stuck so I can't count on getting much done if I want to confine him in there while I vac or clean or whatever. We plan to convert his crib when he's about 3, unless he finds a way to flop out of his crib before then. We just moved so we installed a heavy duty, screwed in the wall w/ light gate that is our backup if he does find a way to get out of the crib, at least he can't fall down the stairs as they're blocked now. We will probably continue to use his video monitor too even when he's in the converted bed, but close his bedroom door at night as a precaution. Don't know if that helps but I'm sure its on everyone's mind :)
