Question about FSH lowering treatments.

I have read that a lot of people really believe that wheatgrass and accupuncture lower the FSH level. I'm interested in giving them a try (FSH 9.18 not bad but I would be happier if it were lower) but I'm wondering- Do they treat the symptom or the disease? In other words do they actually do something to make the egg quality better or do they just suppress FSH, which would just mask the problem?

 TIA

Re: Question about FSH lowering treatments.

  • Lebraly, I have been wondering the exact same thing.  It seems to me that it would just be treating the symptom, not the underlying problem.  With that said, however, a few women on the board said they got their BFP after taking wheatgrass, so maybe it does work!

From my understanding, wheatgrass will not improve egg quality, but improve ovary function. Having a lower FSH can also improve the ovary's response fertility meds....I think.

  • I have wondered the same thing and done a little googling on it.

My impression is that some professionals do believe that FSH itself affects fertility but it is not proven:

"Some doctors say there is a benefit to lowering the FSH level with estrogen. They say that when the FSH is high, the ovary become resistant to FSH and can't be stimulated by fertility drugs(which contain FSH). The theory is that by lowering FSH levels with estrogen, the ovary will respond when high doses of FSH are added(in the form of the fertility injections). It sounds reasonable, however there is no literature to support these claims, i.e. there is no evidenced based medicine."

Here is the link the quote is from.  It also talks about Estardiol.

  • I think wheatgrass helps build up your immune system and thus increases your overall reproductive health. I don't know if it was coincidence, but after a few months or eating more organic and taking wheatgrass powder, I got my BFP. I think it couldn't hurt, that's for sure. The kind I got was mixed with chocolate powder, which you could mix with milk or juice. Otherwise the wheatgrass by itself tastes horrible. GL!
