Any tricks to using sippy cup?

DS just turned 1 yesterday. ( i need to update the siggy in a BAD way) He has 0 interest in the sippy cup for it's intended purposes. He thinks it's a chew toy, or something to shake for fun noises.

I have tried like 4 different kinds of sippy cups, and he's not interested. Are there tricks to getting them to use the sippy cup? What did you do? Are there ones you like?

    I finally figured out to take the stopper out! Also, and this is probably a bad habit, but I put juice or watered down juice in it. The gerber one with handles is the one he has most success with- and we've been trying for months and months. I've also bought a ton and he never drank anything until I took the stopper out.

    Like PP when we started trying the sippy we took out the valve until DD figured out that milk (or whatever) comes out of it.  It's messy, but once she figured that out we put the valve back in and she quickly figured out she just had to suck on it to get liquid out.

    With DS the only one he would take was the Avent Magic Cup with the silicone spout.  With DD the only one she would take was the Nuby.

    First off Happy First Birthday to your son!! My son and your son share the same birthdays.  My son just turned 1 year old yesterday too. We are still struggling on the sippy cup too. He will only drink it on his own if he is lying on the floor with it. If you sit him up in the highchair he hasn't mastered tilting his head back to drink it so he uses it as a toy instead and shakes it or chews it. I am curious too if there are any tricks out there to get them to drink out of a sippy cup. I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone on not being able to get your son to drink out a sippy cup. :)

    You are definitely not alone in this situation.  I made up a game that seemed to have helped DS take a few sips out of his cup.  I pretend to drink out of DS's sippy cup (tilt or sip on the cup while saying "mommy drinks from cup") then I give the cup back to DS and say "Adrian drink from cup".  DS is on the smaller side so his Pediatrician suggested replacing one of this bottles with Pediasure.  He likes the chocolate flavored Pediasure so I mix his chocolate pediasure with milk and put that in his sippy to entice him to use the sippy.  If you go that route you can always give him very diluated juice or whatever your child prefers.  The game of passing it back and forth made him take a first gulp and realize that he does want what's in the sippy, learned I"m mommy and his own name, allowed time for him to swallow before taking the next sip (if sippy flows fast), and obviously to generally learned to sip or tilt the cup. I hope this helps you as it had helped us.
