Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Would you keep this BM? 12oz at stake here!!

Ok, so I'm a total idiot and forgot to put the milk I pumped yesterday at work in the fridge when I got home last night.  All 12 glorious ounces of it.  :(  I remembered at like 7am today.  I did have it in a cooler with an ice pack, but it was not still frozen this morning.  I smelled it and it smells totally fine- would you still use it?  It has been in the fridge since this morning while I try to decide whether or not to keep it.  Any advice (other than don't be an idiot and forget to put your milk in the fridge)?

  • How many hours do you think it was at room temp? If it was at room temp less then 10hrs and smells good I'd use it just make sure it doesn't sit around again.

  • i would definitely keep it!  everything i've read about breastmilk says it's super resilient...the fact that it was in a cooler with an icepack is good enough for me.  but like pp said, i'd use it up or freeze it.  but dont' waste 12oz!

  • I would, it was in a cooler after all
  • Ok good!  I was thinking keep it since everything I've heard/read says that when breastmilk goes bad it smells BAD.  Thanks ladies!

  • I would think it would be okay. BM has great "staying power" it seems.  And if it was on a cooler pack as well, chances are it's fine.  This happened to me once before.  If you feel comfortable I would put just a drop or too on your finger.  If it smells/tastes fine I think it's okay.
  • I say keep it. Breast milk can be lept at room temp for up to 10 hours, and I have given it to DS after that long before.

Also, if it smells fine, then I say its fine. Trust me, you would know if it went bad. It gets really stinky, like spolied cow's milk (I once left it out WAY to long, so you are not alone) that time, I dumped it
