NBR: Couponers - I have some questions for ya.

I am just getting into this and can't believe how much money I could have been saving all this time! I do want to ask a couple things:

Do you receive the Sunday paper/is it worth it for me to look into a subscription? I receive something during the week for free that is like a mini paper and has some coupon inserts inside, but I wonder if I would get more from the paper.

Do you find yoursefl going to different stores all the time or do you stick to one or two places? I feel like I'm running around to get good deals and wonder if I am really saving money after doing that.

Thanks!

  • For our paper the only way you can get sunday delivery is if you also get saturday and friday.  I pick up a sunday paper at the store.  I shop at Shaw's where they double couplon less then 1.00 which helps.  I do look at adds for other stores for house and beauty products to see who has the best deal that week and what I have a coupon for. (example: CVS has 3 hand soaps for $2 and I have a $1 off coupon if you buy 3) If you dont mind not always having the same brand you can save even more.  My rule of thumb is I dont cut coupons for things I wouldnt normally buy if I didnt have a coupon for.

  • I usually go to 2 places-

Our grocery store, and Wal-greens. If we had a CVS I'd go there too for their rewards.  I go to Wal-greens to get the register rewards, and then unless someone has a great deal on diapers I just stick to our grocery store.

Sometimes I will go to Wal-Mart or Target if we need something specific from there. (Clothes, baby gear etc) I also buy Josiah's baby food at Wal-Mart because it's cheapest there.

As far as the Sunday paper, yes. It's totally worth the subscription. I pay 9 dollars a month and I get the "sunday plus" subscription. So I get a paper every Sunday and Wednesday. Those are the two days papers put coupons in. That free shopper doesn't have near the amount of coupons as the Sunday paper. If you are really wanting to stick to coupon shopping, go ahead and subscribe.

Check out www.couponmom.com or www.thegrocerygame.com for more tips. I used Grocery Game to get started and now I do everything on my own. But I think she does a great job explaining rock bottom prices etc.

OH!! I forgot. If K-Mart has a double coupon week, I will shop there instead of Wal-greens for that week.

  • for me, it's not worth getting a subscription for the sunday paper because i don't use half the things that the coupons are for (it's mostly health and beauty items in our ads)

once in awhile i will get the paper for the p&g coupons (they come with pampers coupons!)

  • yes, the sunday paper is worth it!  i only stick to 2 stores, grocerywise.  as far as formula, whoever has it on sale, that's where i'll go.  like you said, running around to a bunch of different stores isn't always wise as you might be spending the $ you THINK you're saving on gas.

  • WE get the Sunday paper and it does have good coupons in it.  I think it's the only place you can get the P&G inserts.  I do go to different stores when I'm closeby. I watch all the sales papers for CVS, Target, Walgreens and two local grocery stores. Then I match my coupons with sales at those stores.  Also if you have a Kmart nearby, they often double coupons and I save a ton of money this way.

  • ALSO, don't forget to look on the back of your receipts!  i just got a great deal on Gerber baby food on the back of my grocery receipt.  and Walgreens had a $5 off Enfamil the other day.
  • I do get the Sunday paper....and for me it's worth it (I have a Sunday only subscription).  I def save more than the cost of the paper.  I used to be someone who'd run around to different stores but now I don't.  In the end it really didn't save that much extra and w/only going to a few stores all the time, I know what the prices are regularly so I'm more aware of a really good deal when it comes along.
