Standing in Crib...

E is pulling herself up in the crib but doesn't know how to put herself down. I have been showing her how to fall on her bottom but she just stands there and cries. What did you guys do when your baby did this?

Re: Standing in Crib...

  • Many books say that you return to their room and gently put them back down.  Do not talk or make eye contact, just keep doing it in intervals.  Eventually they will get the hint and not get back up because they are just too tired.  But sorry no personal experience from this yet.  Although we have been doing this for sitting up,and it has worked.

  • DS has gotten stuck a few times. He leans back and won't let go. I try to get him to move his hands down the slats on the crib until he is almost sitting and then let go.
  • I had to let him figure out how to get down on his own.  If I kept going back in, he would keep doing it.  It took about a week.
  • I think I got lucky in that she only got stuck twice. The first time I came in and put her right back down, kissed her and left the room; she was alseep 3 mins afterwards. By the time she did it the second time (maybe 4 days later) we had been practicing during awake times how to get down so she cried for a bit and then got down herself.
  • This happened to us and it was frustrating. i tried putting her back down over and over and that could last for 45 min. She just had to figure it out. Once she did, everything was fine. Sadly it took a few weeks. I hope your lo figures it out soon!!

  • I put DS in a sleep sack that made it very hard for him to stand up. By the time he was able to stand up in the sleep sack he had so much practice going down during the day that there was no problem.

  • DD figured this out on her own... along with putting her leg up on top of the crib rail and trying to sky dive off the edge. :)

I would rec just gently placing your DC down on her bottom each time just to show her, and she will get the hang of it soon I am sure.
