Favor ideas for first birthday party?

Hi all! It's been awhile since I've been on here...things have been crazy! I'm planning Rena's party and am at a loss for favors. The kids coming to the party are different ages- from babies to about 4 years old. Any suggestions? What favors did you give out at DC's first birthday? So far I just have the little plastic bags that match the decorations! TIA.

Re: Favor ideas for first birthday party?

  • bubbles, crayons (walmart sells a package of 12 or so), I've seen little minture finger paints, & playdoh, although we have yet to use any of the playdoh we've ever received, but I know we will eventually.

  • I did bubbles, but then forgot to tell people to take them. They were sitting in a bowl on the present table, but I don't think anyone noticed :(

  • We did beach balls.  They weren't the inflated kind, obviously, but the kind you blow up yourself.

  • maddy's party was carnival themed, so the favors were small bags of cotton candy, plus whatever prizes they got from the carnival games, which included tatooes, bubbles, little frisbees, coloring books, and a bunch of other little toys i can't seem to recall anymore!

    i can't believe she's almost 1!! can you?!

  • For her first bday, I just had 3 pails of goodies.  One was full with just a bunch of random little toys (bubbles, bouncing ball, etc..), the second pail had chocolates, and the 3rd pail had sour/fruity candy.  I just handed the bags to the kids and let them pick what they wanted to put in the bag.  It worked out pretty well, and was surprised that none of the kids were greedy and actually didn't even feel their bags like I would have.  But they were all happy and excited to pick what they want.

  • I had an array of stuff...a book, a soap, a big lollipop, Sniff tissues, and other little things that weren't choking hazards. Then of course, favors for the adults!

  • for T's 1st party i gave the small sized Dr Seuss books

for the 2nd party, i did a goodie bag with stickers, a super ball, lollipop, train whistle, and small toy train. it was a train theme, obvioulsy.

  • Haha, I'm the only cheapskate on the board, apparently!  I decided not to do favors for a few reasons - the range in the ages of the kids coming (didn't want to have to search for different favors for each), money, and just trying to cut back on the non-necessities.  I personally think favors are cute, but absolutely not necessary.  But I'm clearly in the minority on the board, so don't listen to me, lol!

I have to say, though, that if I had thought of doing bubbles like TexasSmith and a few others, I might have done those.  EVERYONE likes bubbles, and they're super cheap.  Dammit, why didn't I think of that?  But really, I don't think you need to do them.  If you want to, sure, but I wouldn't worry about it otherwise.

  • How many kids are coming and are you at all crafty?  I made hoody towels because we only had 6 kids or so.  Seems big but I think they cost me $3each and I figured I'd rather give one nice gift then a lot of little things that would end up getting tossed.  I love the book idea, we'll have to do that for 2!
  • Maddie had a duck themed party with two age groups of kids (5-7 and then 1-3).

I got 50 rubber duckies from oriental trading company and hid some in the front yard and some in the back yard.  The big kids had a duck hunt in the back yard and then little ones hunted in the front yard.  The ducks were decorated like little army ducks, nurse ducks, police ducks, fireman ducks, princess ducks, party ducks, pirate ducks, etc.  The kids didn't necessarily want the ducks they found (boys found princesses, for example) so we put all the found ducks in a pile and they got to take turns picking ducks from the pile.  Then I had little gingham printed favor boxes and they put their little ducks inside along with animal crackers, bubbles, and stuff like that.
