DH Vent/Depression ...

So, my DH is a SAHD while he takes classes at night.  With his GI Bill benefits, we make a good living along with me working full time...

Until DH fuucked up.  He had to drop two classes this semester (they were online classes and he postponed studying for the midterm and doing the homework, so it was either drop or fail) and now he's only part-time.  Which cuts his benefits in half.  Which mean we cannot pay all our bills, which has made my DH feel (rightly, a little bit, I think) guilty because he's screwed us over.  It's also thrown him into a depression.

So he's looking for work.  And a friend of ours found an opportunity for him to be a government contractor, but he needed his Top Secret clearance... which didn't come through in time.  They are interviewing this week and he didn't get the opportunity to interview for it.

Selfishly, I don't know what I'm going to do.  I have tried and tried and tried, I cannot make him feel better about this, he's just in a negative funk that doesn't go away.  He's smoking again, which we totally cannot afford.  And he tried to hide it from me.  I just don't know what to do.  Stupid DH, and stupid economy.

  • OMG, that really sucks.  I don't have any advice for you, but I admit that I would feel the same way if my DH did something like that.  GL!  I hope he finds part time work ASAP.

  • I'm sorry you are having such a tough time. If it were me, I'd help DH focus on the next opportunity rather than the screwed up classes.
  • I know this sounds crappy to hear but he needs to MAN UP!

Can't he add 2 other classes late and continue full time?

  • This sounds like the situation my and my DH were in a couple of years ago.  I was so frustrated with him.  It just took time for him to get his s*** together.  Sometimes you just have to light a fire under their *ss.
