Random Curious ? about bed rest and working

Please know I am not pregnant and never have been for longer than a month but, when you are ordered to go on bed rest and you are working, does that mean you have to go on long-term disability?  Does your employer still have to keep yours or an equal position open for your return?  How does that work?  If this is something I should have googled please just tell me.  TIA for the insight!

  • Not sure honestly, but it probably depends on the employer.

  • Well mine was STD when I was taken out of work at 31 weeks. I'm not exactly sure when LTD would apply. And they did have to keep my job for me while I was out. I don't know if it varies per state but I assume it does.

  • It really depends on your policy.  I can use std for up to 26 weeks before having to switch to ltd.  Mine also has some pretty strict guidelines for pregancy, bedrest, etc.

  • Be careful about the "keeping your position" situation, too. At my job you have to be "full time" for longer than a year in order to be granted a leave of absence in which they are required to hold your position.

  • I was put on bedrest at 36 weeks.  My boss let me work from home.  Which was awesome and that is probably not the norm.
