Does your DC watch TV?

I prefer not to let our DS watch TV, but he loves it. So when we need to get ready in the morning or do something quickly without him, we let him watch cartoons while he plays. Do you let your child do this? If so, does DC watch TV, videos, etc.? I was thinking about buying a Baby Einstein DVD or something more educational.

Re: Does your DC watch TV?

  • No.  We used to let him watch Your Baby Can Read for 20 minutes/day but I got tired of it and felt it was too contrived so we stopped.  He doesn't watch any tv and I think our plan is to avoid that until he's 2.

  • I'll admit that I do use Baby Einstein as a babysitter. If I need to get something done and she is being crabby I'll turn it on. She loves it, but I'm not sure that she's learning anything from it.?
  • DS watches for 15-20 mins 2 or 3 days a week, usually while I'm scrubbing his clothes. He loves the Baby Einstein Moves video.
  • yes, I don't see the big deal with not letting them, I just don't get it. He watches Sesame Street in the morning when we wake up and he drinks his bottle while watching it. Then during the day or at night he watches TV with us and watches what we watch or something like The Backyardigans or Wonder Pets, he loves both of those shows!

  • I'm with the pp...I don't see the big deal.  He watches some in the morning and if I need to get something done I'll turn on Noggin for him.  He watches maybe 1-2 hours a day total.  He also loves to play by himself and is social with others too, so developmentally he is just fine.

I try to practice moderation in everything.

  • Not often, maybe a 1/2 hour a week at the most?  To each their own on this one.  I'm just not a fan because he zones out and gets so entranced when he looks at the tv, a parade could go by and he wouldn't notice probably!
