lets say high blood pressure or put on bedrest, do you worry that it will happen again for subsequent pregnancies? We're not TTC yet but I worry how I would handle possible bedrest/hospital stay (I had high blood pressure) with a toddler.
i worry all the time! i was hospitalized for nearly a month and then on bedrest at home for about another three months (short cervix and, therefore, risk of premature labour). my doctor said the same condition would happen in my subsequent pregnancies. i guess i'd have to call in a lot of favours from friends and family (which is tough since 90% live out of town). what does your husband say? mine gets anxious even thinking about it.
i didn't start going downhill until the last month of my PG. at that point the swelling became absolutely ridiculous, i started spilling protein, and my blood pressure started climbing. i was induced at 38w3d bc my doctors were so concerned but was never oficially diagnosed with preE.
this time around my doc said that i am definitely more at risk for problems, specifically preE. they are going to keep a much closer eye on me and towards the end i'll probably have more appts than usual to monitor. this time around she is also making me do a 24 hour urine catch so they can get a baseline (or something). i'm not expecting to go the whole 40 weeks this time around either (although i would LOVE to have the experience of going into labor on my own and not hooked up to pitocin-the-devil-drug).
I had it all during my first pregnancy. Sciatica, colitis flare up, high blood pressure and GD. One would have been hard, but all of them together was very frustrating. We will be TTC as soon as the OB gives us the green light (I had a C-Sec but would like to start trying sooner so that I can get on a better blood pressure medication after the pregnancy as it never went away).
During the first pregnancy, I was on modified bedrest from April to June. From June to delivery in August it was strict. Thankfully, I have a great relationship with my Mom and she moved into our house (she lives 10 hours away by car) to take care of me and the house. She has already indicated she will do the same again. I think my Dad will spend more time here then he did last time since he always has to be busy which he would not have been for the first pregnancy. This time, he has a granddaughter to play with!

I had some problems at the beginning of my pregnancy. I had bleeding off and on for the first 10 weeks. Because of the bleeding and low HCG levels, my OB ordered an u/s to determine if I had an ectopic pregnancy. Thankfully, I did not have an ectopic, but it was discovered that the sac measured two weeks behind the baby. I had to have an u/s every two weeks until I was 14 weeks to see if the sac caught up. Apparently this is an extremely rare thing and my doctor strongly encouraged me to get the NST because he was concerned that there might have been an underlying problem. My practice sends you to a genetics specialist for the test and they determined that the size of the sac was just barely within the normal range (definitely on the small side, but normal). Obviously things worked out just fine because DS is a healthy little boy, but I am concerned about having the same issues the next time. I plan on bringing it up at my annual appointment in July.
I had HELLP so I went from feeling fine to nearly dying (bp was 200s over 100s and my liver was swollen into my lungs) and DS almost dying (his placenta was only 10% of what it should have been for gestational age in a matter of 2 hours. I also lost half my blood supply and caught a terrible infection after my c/s and it was 22 weeks before I was fully recovered. I'm sure I will be terrified my whole next pregnancy that today might be the day I may die. But my docs are very optimistic that I can have a healthy pregnancy (25% chance of same scenario) and I know I will recognize the signs much quicker this time. I will definately have a "plan" - STD (in case of bedrest) and people lined up to care to DS if I have a long recovery or NICU stay like last time. The risk is worth it for me - I love my son so much I want to experience all that joy with another child as well.
