WWYD? OB's office visit

At the last minute, my SIL flaked on me to watch DS while I was at the appt this am. So I took him. He is too big for his infant carseat and hates being "worn". I had to go to the bathroom to pee in a cup. The nurse offered to hold him while I peed. I said no, thank you. She gave me a look like she thought I was a crazy.

Do you think is weird? I just don't want a stranger (yeah, a nurse) but still a stranger holding my baby in ANOTHER ROOM. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I don't want to regret being separated from him even for two minutes. So I put him on my knee and did my business one-handed. Later I let a nurse hold him while the doc had me laying flat, but she was a few feet from me in the same room.

Re: WWYD? OB's office visit

  • When DS has to go to the dr w/me, I put him in his stroller during the exam.
  • Loading the player...
  • stroller is a good idea, but we had an infant one and we have to order a double one...maybe I'll do that next time.
  • I always use a stroller too.  I do think it was a little overprotective, if it was a random person at a department store I could see it but it was a nurse in a private doctors office, but that is just my opinion.
  • For me, it would totally depend. If it was a nurse I already knew, or I got a good vibe from her... AND Lyla was in a happy mood... AND I desperately had to pee... I'd probably hand her over and go really, really fast.

But otherwise, I definitely understand why you'd hesitate.

  • I would have let the nurse hold him, and I would have been very thankful she offered.

  • I would have let the nurse hold him.  They know who she is...where was she going to go?

    This.

I wouldn't just hand my baby over to anyone, but I would def. trust the nurse at my OB's office.

If you find yourself in that predicament again bring the stroller if you don't think you can hand your LO over to the nurse.  But to be honest the nurse at my OB/GYN is the one stranger I would have no issue with.
