Has anyone ever filed a report with the Better Business Bureau?

Did anything ever come from it? Tell me about it.

  • Yes, over an extended car warranty (big scam).  Nothing could be done in this case as the US address for the company was in a different state run out of the Cayman Islands.

I also referred to the BBB when looking for landscapers.  One I interviewed had a couple of unfavorable marks and got all pissy when I asked him about it.  He had a ton of good reviews on local website so I decided I would interview him.  He was completely offended when I asked about the BBB complaints.  I was glad when he didn't return with an estimate.

  • Yes! I filed a BBB complaint against Merchants Tire a few years ago when they screwed up big time fixing my car. I got all my money back. It was very easy. I filed a complaint online, someone from the company called shortly thereafter and I got my check for $700 soon after that.

I just filed one online against a retail chain who apparently has a merchandise credit return only policy. Shady! I hope I get my money back like you. :)

  • I've sure responded to them often enough - I always take care of it when I can, but they are often unreasonable requests - if they were reasonable I would have done it to begin with!

  • What do you mean by Merchandise credit return?

  • I went shopping last night. Bought a bunch of stuff from Forever 21. About three hours after I bought it, I noticed that one of the dress had a tear in it and the other had a red stain on it. I took it back to get my money back. They told me that they do not issue any refunds other than store credit. I paid cash. The manager got snippy with me and told me the cashier told me about the return policy. Um no, she didn't. I have never purchased anything from there before, or returned anything, so obviously I was unaware that their return policy was not standard.

ETA- They didn't have any more of my size in either dress. So, it's not like I could just exchange it.

  • I have! TMobile would not let me cancel my contract during my "trial phase"- telling me the reason that my phone didn't work was because they were working on the lines around my  home.  they wanted me to wait a week and see if it worked afterwards.  I waited and called back and they said they were sorry, but I was passed my trial period and would have to  pay a cancellation fee.  I was furious and complained, but eventually paid the fee since I couldn't use the phone anyways.  Thinking my phone was cancelled, I got ATT and the next month I got a TMobile bill for $400, for 5 phone lines (it's just me and my husband), about 1000 text messages, etc.  So I called to have it fixed and they said that I had previously called in to add the phone lines and that they couldn't take them off without five more cancellation fees!  They refused to work with me, so I filed with BBB, within a week I had all of my money back, including the cancellation fees.  It's well worth the time.  GL!

I'm not sure BBB will do anything about that. If the store has the policy marked at the register, then its legal. While you may put a blackmark on their record, its doubtful. This type of policy is becoming quite common in the retail world and I don't think is illegal in any way. Whether the cashier told you or not is he said/she said...as long as they have it posted SOMEWHERE it doesn't matter if you saw it/read it really. They offered you some type of reimbursement...a store credit for any other merchandise....YOU may not hear much out of BBB on this one.

Whether I think its right is a whole other issue.

  • years ago (well before the internet dating) I was signed up with Great Expectations to meet new people.   Part of it was they did a photo shoot.   Then you come in and view the photos, and if you want, you could pick one to go with your "requests".    I only liked one of the poses - the rest looked like crap, so I choose the one and ordered.   It was like several hundred dollars.

About a week later, I got a call from them that there was problems with the developing.   There was a scratch on the negative right across my face and I couldn't use that picture - I would need to choose another.  (this is before digital pics too).    I told them I didn't like ANY of the other poses, so instead I would opt out of the picture thing and wanted my money back.   They said that was not possible.   I told them this was their error.   They ruined the pic, that was the pic I had chosen, they needed to make it right.   They didn't.

Filed with BBB, they countered telling a completely different story - however, in the end they reimbursed my money.
