I know it depends on the child, but I'm just curious. I remember in my Child Development class in college they told us that you shouldn't start potty training before 18 months because it can mess up the kid if they're not ready (don't remember why they said that), but DS is going to be one next month and I'd like to start this summer because I'll be home with him (I'm a teacher). I doubt he'll totally learn how to go by himself, but I'd like to try at least if I see that he's getting ready (giving signs that he can hold his BMs or urine).

Re: When do you think you're going to start potty training?
We'll start slowly as soon as he can walk - get him a toilet, introduce him to the concept, etc.
Really? Why? I'd never heard this...
It's because they can feel the wetness against their skin. Disposibles wick the moisture away and the babies feel nothing. That's the arguement against things like pull-ups, they don't teach the kid that they're wet or anything, IMO they just prolong the training process.
Oh, OK. That makes sense. I haven't really read up on potty training yet -- one thing at a time! Thanks:-)
