We had originally though of Alexander. But after much debate we decided on the English Variant of the Scottish version of Alexander (did I confuse you yet?). So, Alistair it is. Minor confusion on a good spelling though. Alasdair, Alistair or Alister? We're leaning towards Alistair, since it is the most popular. What do you ladies think? The nn would most likely be Ali, which is also an arabic name. (Fitting, since baby is part middle eastern)

Me too, on both accounts. But I do LOVE Harry Potter!
Is Alastair an option? For some reason that makes more sense to me.?
i like it
I like Alistair! I've never read any of the HP stuff, so I didn't think of that. The only thing I thought of was the 80s show You Can't Do That on Television, but that's definitely not going to be an issue for your kid.
It's a good strong name. Good choice!
