Ameda Truely Yours Ultra vs Medela Freestyle??

Help! I've been borrowing my sisters Medela PIS since DD was born, but my sister is due in a few weeks and will need it back. I can't decide between the Medela Freestyle and the Ameda Truely Yours Ultra. Anyone use either of these? Likes/dislikes?

TIA, also posting on 6-12?

  • Is the Ameda TYU the same as the Ameda Purely Yours in that it is a closed system? I would ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS buy a closed system pump.?

?Yes that means I find it quite quite gross that your sister and you are sharing a Medela, not because sisters shouldn't share quite personal things but because a Medela is basically a germ factory. The milk can and does back up in the motor in amounts so small you can't see them and festers there. Even though the risk of that bacteria getting in the milk is very low, I find that too yucky to think about.

Get a closed system pump if you are in the market for a new one.?

  • I also love my Freestyle.  I started with a PISA and the suction and all is very similar, so its something you'd be used to already.  I love how mobile I am able to be while pumping with the Freestyle and the fact that it is virtually weightless!

  • I LOVE my freestyle.  I *think* the Ameda has to be plugged in? Not sure on that... but I can tell you I have no complaints about the freestyle.  I work fulltime and pump 3-4 times a day with no issues.  It's also tiny, so I can fit a lot in my pumping bag which is nice (my lunch, papers, wallet, etc).

  • Again, check re the Ameda TY but the Ameda PY had batteries as well as an adaptor. I used it with batteries fine.
