2nd Trimester

When to wash baby clothes??

I am at 23 weeks and I will be delivering at 38 weeks (I have to be scheduled).  When should I wash all my baby clothes??  I am anxious to get everything hung up (or put in drawers whenever I buy my dresser).  I thought I would just wait until 1-2 weeks before my shower, but I just don't know if I want to wait that long.  (My shower is at 32 weeks)

When are you washing all your baby clothes??

  • Around 34w - you dont want them to get dusty.

  • I am waiting until after my shower, because I have dreft on my registry, and I reallllllllly hope someone buys it for us, no j/k. LOL. Well I do have it on my registry, and then I will have all the baby clothes that I need to wash.  Then I will wash the clothes. (31 weeks)
  • I wouldn't want to wash them any sooner than 4 weeks. I'd be nervous they'd get dusty and not have that "fresh-ness" to them... I'll be washing mine after my last shower...so for me, probably at 37/38 weeks. I'll be off work by then so I'll have all the free time to do it.
  • I actually don't suggest washing them until the baby is born and you know that they will fit.  I washed a boat-load of newborn-sized stuff and then my son was almost 10lbs at birth, and none of it fit.  I couldn't use it and couldn't return it- SOL. I'd wash a couple gowns and kimono tees to have them ready, but leave all the cute outfits and stuff w/ tags on and receipts nearby.

  • Many of my friends have suggested not washing too many clothes too early.  Several had large babies at they were out of NB clothes in weeks.  Had they known, they would have exchanged many things baby didn't wear but instead they were stuck with them.  I plan on washing a few NB items a few weeks before then washing the rest as needed.
  • I'm waiting until after my showers (one at 32 weeks and one at 35 weeks). I want to just do one or two loads of clothes and blankets. Plus that way I can wash any basics that I buy to fill in for whatever we don't get at the shower.
  • My DH and mom washed them all while I was in the hospital.  I was anal about leaving on all tags, packaging, etc.  So they set up the entire nursery so it was ready when we came home, it was very nice :o)
