How much of prunes for constipated 5.5 month old?

My almost 6 month old DD is EBF, but we tried some rice cereal last week. She liked it and had some each day for 3 days. Then I stopped for a couple days (we're traveling)... but now she hasn't had a bowel movement in 3 full days. She was an everyday pooper before... so she seems very uncomfortable and more fussy than usual... lots of gas, but no poop.

Any thoughts other than just waiting it out? I fed her a tiny spoonful of Gerbers prunes this afternoon, but no effect. How much do you normally give for constipation? Is a little bit of diluted juice better? Or pears instead of prunes? I'll call the pedi tomorrow, just wondered what other people have done....

  • I would give DD a whole stage 1 serving of prunes.  She didn't like the diluted juice and I found other fruits didn't work.  GL!

  • I did a half of a gerber stage one container.  That did hte trick....2 hours later she was much better!

  • I gave DS a whole serving of gerber stage 1 prunes mixed with a little oatmeal and it worked perfectly.  We had tried diluted juice before and it did nothing for him.
  • Its not fun when you have a constipated LO. I would give her half the 1st years. Thats what i did with dd who had the same problem. Then I started adding prune juice to her cereal every feeding/

  • The same scenario happened to my DD.  The diluted juice also did not help.  I gave her the whole portion of stage 1 prunes from Gerber for 2 days til we saw some relusts.

Also, my DD got constipated when we started bananas.
