Do you have one of these vehicles? If so, what do you think of it? Also, do you know if you can you fit 2 convertible car seats in the back and still have leg room in the front? Are you happy with the amount of trunk space you have? I think we have narrowed our choices to these 4 vehicles. I need to go and see how my stroller fits in the trunk and how the carseat fits, but I thought I would see your opinions.
Oh, and I read today that the Scion xB only got a score of 5 (out of 10) on a reliability test. Until I read that we had pretty much decided on the Scion (I know it's ugly, but it seemed to have the most room for a great price), but now I'm scared to get it. So I'm interested to see if any of you have problems with it. Thanks!
Re: Hybrid Civic, Hybrid Camry, Prius, Scion xB?
We have a regular Camry--the new model, but not hybrid. It is a great car. However, I was shocked at how far we had to move the seat up to get the (rear facing) car seat in. We have it behind the passenger seat, and DH can't ride up front if I'm driving, and he's only 5'11".
I don't think it will be nearly an issue when we change her to a front facing convertible seat though. And I think having two front facing convertibles wouldn't be a big deal either--the backseat is quite spacious. Other than that issue, I LOVE my Camry! We plan on keeping it for a long, long time. :-)
ETA: the trunk space is adequate for a car that size..definitely not huge though. This weekend is our first trip out of town with Holly, and we quickly filled it up between our stuff and hers. I think it works. but we did talk about whether or not we think it would do when we go on a longer trip and need more stuff, and/or have baby #2's stuff to deal with too!
Yikes, that's what I'm afraid of. I'm 5'11" and DH is 6'4". Hmmmmm....

We have a Prius and love it! It's DH's primary car and he fits Scott's convertible (rear facing) seat in, all of his work crap (he lugs a TON to work everyday) and our 2 dogs (one is 45 lbs, and the other is 65lbs) w/ no problem. That's one thing we really like about the Prius--he can have one side of the back seat down (for the dogs) and the other side up for Scott's car seat. DH hasn't complained to me about having to have the seat too far up (Scott's car seat is behind the driver's side) and I think he would've said something to me about it by now if it was a pain in the rear.
All that being said, if we're going on a trip with all 3 of us plus the 2 dogs, we tend to take my Ford Focus Wagon just because it does have some more room. We could probably fit it all in the Prius, it would just be less roomy than in my Focus. (BTW-they don't make the Focus wagon anymore).
I don't have any of those cars, but I thought I would just throw this out there. I have a Honda Pilot--it's VERY roomy and spacious, and the back seat has tons of leg room, plus is comfortable for an adult to sit in between 2 carseats.
But...I put in our Britex Diplomat convertable seat in last week and I was shocked on how much room it took up! DH is going to have some issues with scooting the seat back I think--- he is 5'11". So... just keep that in mind. Even with having a very roomy SUV rear-facing convertables can take up some room! And the diplomat weight limit is 40 lbs, so it's one of the smaller models!
I have an older regular civic and love it too (it just hit 200K miles!). But when I put the carseat in it makes the passenger seat eat the dash. I noticed the newer models have more room, but I'm not sure it's enough.

I also have a regular Camry and agree with Hughes on the car seat issues. But, I love my car and would not trade it for anything. We have plenty of room for now. When #2 comes, we might get an SUV just because we also have dogs, but we'll cross that road when we get there.
I've also had a Scion, although I had the Tc, but I loved it too. It was a very good, reliable car. The only reason we traded it in was because we needed more room for the baby. Otherwise, I would still be in it.
MrsSavannah...I cannot even imagine fitting into any of these cars comfortably since you & your DH are so tall (like mirror images of me & my DH). Add on to that the possibility of 2 children and I see some cramped quarters!?
Have you looked into larger cars/smaller SUVs that would provide a little more space for you guys. We have a Hybrid Ford Escape that we really like (but now I'm very much spoiled by the space in my Trailblazer!).
Good luck with your decision!?
I know. I really don't know what to get.
DH wants us to get something really great on gas because ultimately this will be his commuting vehicle. But for at least 2 years we will have this new car (for a family vehicle) and my civic (for DH to commute in). In a couple of years he wants another big truck. I mentioned getting a Rav4 or CRV now (instead of a truck later) and later replace my civic with another small car, but he said he really wants a truck eventually. I really don't think we need a truck. I haven't looked at the Ford you mentioned but will look it up.
After discussing this all weekend he just told me to get whatever I want.

We LOVE our Scion xB. DH is 6'3" and I'm 5'11" and we have PLENTY of space. Tons of headroom & legroom. & we've had the car for 2 years now with zero problems. It's a very smooth ride, very easy on the gas for a car with the interior size of an SUV. & since they are cheap, we'll have it paid off in under 24 months.
I'd definitely recommend it.
