belly button ring

so we had to cut my belly button ring out this week. i have had that thing in for 10 years and am a little sad about how naked my belly button looks. now i realize this is well worth it and my belly is full with life which is much more awesome, but still, it looks naked. i guess just one of those things i knew i would have to do but wasnt expecting how i would feel when i did it.?

Re: belly button ring

  • I just took mine out last week....It looks so weird....and I feel like my belly button looks HUGE!!!  I'll be happy I did it...but right now I always find myself touching it through my shirt because I feel like its a gigantic pit!!! lol

  • I feel your pain... I took mine out a few weeks ago and my tummy looks barren!! I'm not liking the new look but with a growing belly that is pasty white I guess I wouldn't be showing it off much anyway... At least now my pants don't catch on it!

  • Have you looked into getting some of these?

My friend grew HUGE with her pregnancies and swears by them.  She bought a few so that she would keep lengthening it as her belly grew.  She said they are super comfortable and recommends them to every one she knows!

  • Oh - just wait until your belly really starts streching!  The two holes leave the weirdest marks.  I took mine out like 5 years before I got PG, and it still looked funny!

  • you can get a pregnancy piercing. it's a long plastic bar that bends - get a couple of them (they are cheap) so you can cut to the size you need now- and then have one long for later.  This way the hole will not close up.

I wore one with my first pg and it was fine- i could go back to my regular bar about a week PP - and it looked totally normal.

this time i had a PP in but my DS kept pulling at it when he's kissing the babies and it was hurting so i took it out and praying my hole does not close up -b/c i really like my piercing.

  • I am hoping to not take mine out, and just get the flexible ring when I have too.

Why did yours have to be cut out?!

DD1(4):VSD & PFO (Closed!), Prenatal stroke, Mild CP, Delayed pyloric opening/reflux, Brachycephaly & Plagiocephaly, Sacral lipoma, Tethered spinal cord, Compound heterozygous MTHFR, Neurogenic bladder, Urinary retention & dyssynergia, incomplete emptying, enlarged Bladder with Poor Muscle Tone, EDS-Type 3. Mito-Disorder has been mentioned

DD2(2.5): Late term premie due to PTL, low fluid & IUGR, Reflux, delayed visual maturation, compound heteroygous MTHFR, PFAPA, Bilateral kidney reflux, Transient hypogammaglobulinemia, EDS-Type 3

  • I left mine in the whole time with my first pregnancy, even though the nurses were telling me i would have to take it out eventually, and it was fine. And i still have mine in with this pregnancy too. They tell you that you will probably have to take it out,but you might not, and I even got really big with my first one. No problems
  • I took mine out a little over a year ago just as a preference. I was hoping that a year would be enough time for it to "grow in" a little so my belly won't look weird! Has anyone else been in that situation? So I guess I should plan on still having two stretched out weird looking hole things?

  • i had to cut it because we couldn't unscrew it! we tried pliers and everything so we just cut it. i figure that because i am having twins i am going to get huge so i think it had to come out. i didnt know they had plastic extender bars though! this is why i love thebump.

I did the same thing, took mine out about a year before I knew we were going to start TTC, hoping it would give it enough time to heal. Well, my first stretchmark sprouted from the top hole around 24 weeks! I was so mad! LOL Especially when I didn't get ANY other stretch marks until about 37 weeks; I thought I was in the clear and only would get the one from my belly button ring hole.

Of all my major stretch marks (because on me, believe me, once they started they just took over my poor belly) the ones sprouting from my belly button ring hole completely faded away.. the other ones are still pretty zebra stripes all across my lower belly & hips. ;)

  • I took mine out around 14 weeks and it went right back in after I had DS.  Then I took it back out when he discovered it while nursing.  Big Smile

I'm curious- did you use cocoa butter, vit. E, or any of those other stretch mark creams once those stretch marks started? I'm curious about if they work. Sadly, I already know I'm prone to stretch marks and I don't want to waste my time trying to prevent the unavoidable. Sorry to change topics a little!

  • My Dr. told me as long as I'm comfortable, I could leave mine in. This baby will be my 3 child (if it makes it) but my 5th pregnancy. I have yet to take it out. I keep the bar bell in and just remember your belly sticks out, then you won't catch it on anything. But that's just what I did and what MY Dr recommended. Asking your own Dr is the best idea

yep I did. I used a cocoa butter stretch mark cream from B&BWorks. Sadly, it didn't help.. but like I said, all the stretch marks popped up around 37 weeks and just kept coming until 41 weeks when DD was born.. I guess my belly (and DD) grew a lot and quickly at that point! My mom has NO stretch marks at all! I even tried Bio Oil after to help them fade but that didn't do much either... of course I was too tired to really stay consistent w/ it ;) Honestly though, they're fading pretty well right now. It's enough that I have no problem getting back into a bikini.
