c/s w/ twins--where is your scar?

My ob told me if my boys are "big" then she may have to do the incision from my belly button down.  I do not want an incision from the belly button down!  I thought it went across below the bikini line.  Where is your incision and how big were your babies?

thank you!

Re: c/s w/ twins--where is your scar?

  • havent heard that one before...

mine is in my bikini area, my girls were 6lbs 6 oz and 6lbs 11 oz.

  • Loading the player...
  • That is quite odd! ?My girls were full term and I have only a small horizontal incision. ?I've only heard of vertical incisions in the case of an emergency c/s.
  • vertical incisions are very old school.. mine is horizontal and under the bikini line (right in the "pooch" fold) ?
  • right above my bikini line - although I will never be able to wear a bikini lol.  My roll hides it nicely.
  • Um -- yikes.  How many c/s twins has your OB delivered?  I've never heard this.  Mine is the normal place like the pp's.  The vertical one is old school.

  • Yeah, I'd be questioning that one.  My scar is horizontal and obscenely low and my two were 6.3 and 5.6
  • That makes no sense at all. My babies were huge for twins - 7 lbs 6 oz and 7 lbs 8 oz. My incision is small and across my bikini area - below the line of my panties.

I'd be checking out other docs, I think. They only come out one at a time - the incision shouldn't have to be any different!
  • My babies weren't big but when my DH asked how she was going to mkake the incision she said below the bikini line my DH asked if it would be verticle and my OB said, "not in less were in Mexico".  I do know emergency c/s can be verticle.
  • Very low bikini area, about 2 inches wide.  My boys were 6 lbs, 14 oz and 5 lbs, 15 oz.  BIG babies.  My scar is tiny, and across - not down.
  • Oh - and mine was an emergency C section.
  • I delivered triplets via c-section - total weight of all 3 was just 3 oz shy of 15 lbs and I have a normal small horizontal scar.

Very rarely do they have to do vertical incisions.  I have heard of a few triplet moms with those - but it is so RARE.

  • i never even thought to ask!  I can only assume that my doc will do a horizontal if it comes to it.  My friend had an emergency c section with my doc (singleton pregnancy) and her scar is horizontal but, they couldnt reach the baby b/c he was too high so they had to cut even more - she has horizontal and vertical on the uterus - not on her skin.
  • Lower than I would have imagined - I would questions your dr.  I've never heard of that and it seems like a horrible recovery too.
  • Ditto pp'ers.
  • My c/s with the trio was cut over my original c/s scar, which is right where my pubic hair starts (not sure if that's my bikini line; I can't see it anymore and I've never been able to wear a bikini anyway).

However, my OB did say that because of the placental placement and the fact that my babies were large (~5 lbs each) and thier positions in the uterus (baby A was balled up at the bottom frank breach and B and C were transverse in an X above A), that she wasn't sure if she would be able to go over the same scar or have to cut vertically in order to avoid the placenta and babies.  She promised to do what she could to keep it in the same position, or maybe even move it up a few inches (so mid-way between my belly button and my original c/s scar) and cut horizontally.  They were going to do an u/s in the delivery room to determine the best way to get them out.  She also explained that once she got inside, she couldn't guarantee that she'd be able to cut my uterus in the same spot; she might have to go vertical on that, even if she was able to make the first incision horizontally.  It didn't matter to me b/c as far as I'm concerned I don't need my uterus anymore, but she was able to do traditional cuts with both inscisions.

  • bikini line, girls were 5.4 and 4.13.

  • My scar is horizontal, and it's about an inch below my pubic hair line. I'm very tall, so maybe that's why it's so low? I dunno.... but it's pretty cool that it's so low.
  • I am a OB nurse...and I cant remember even once where a DR did a vertical incision b/c of size....I'd get a second opinion
  • I replied in the post above but I have a tiny horizontal scar in my bikini area but they had to give me an inverted T cut on my uterus (sp?) because they had to deliver Baby B 1st because she stopped breathing (then she became Baby A). SO even though on the outside I have a small scar if I ever have a nother baby I will have a csection again because of that.

  • I had large babies - 7lb.7oz. and 6lb.10oz - and I have a small horizontal scar at the top of my pubic hair (right under the pooch roll).  I agree with pp.  That would make me very nervous about that doctor.
