I know I am not alone here & there are others that have this "issue". How to I know if my son is waking out of habit to eat versus being hungry & eating. My Doc. told me that he should be able to go allll night, but he will only go 5 hours.
BTW, he does eat, not just comfort nurse....although he does do that sometimes. My DS will not take a paci.
Re: 7 months old - still waking to nurse!
Hmm sometimes. My DS is also a big boy who likes to eat! Lol
Ditto this. And, technically, sttn is 5 hours.

My DS will only go about 5 to 6 hour stretches at night also. He is 8 months and I was going to give him one more month to see what happens and then start sleep training. My pedi also said he should be sleeping through the night but sometimes those breastfeed babies take a little longer (her quote).
He will take a full feeding most nights so I think he may be hungry even though he eats a good dinner.
My DD was waking at night to nurse... more than 1 time in fact. She was distracted throughout the day and didn't eat enough and so to make up for that, she started waking up 2,3 even 4 times to nurse.
It got to be too much so we started sleep training. It was a tough road but most nights she sleeps through now. Occasionally she will wake between 4 and 6 and I will feed her and she'll go back to sleep but if its before that I won't feed her and it seems to be working for us.
Your DS may be hungry but if he's not eating at night he will adjust and take in more during the day. Do what you feel is best. I wanted to feed my daughter whenever she needed but it became so tiring getting up all night that I had to do what was was best for my situation. Now we have a happier mommy and therefore a happier baby.
GL!
DS was still waking at 3 AM, every night, to eat. And, like you, he really did eat. But, I talked with the pedi about it, and read Ferber's book, and DH and I decided that it was a habitual night waking. What helped me realize this was an experiment- I started timing how long he was BFing for, and cut it shorter. Originally, he was BFing for 8 minutes. So one night I stopped him at 7. A few nights later I stopped him at 5. And worked my way down to him only BFing for 2 minutes, me taking him off, burping him, putting him in his crib, and him going right back to sleep. If he's only nursing for 2 minutes, he doesn't need those calories.
So we Ferbered his night waking (about 2-3 weeks after Ferbering for naps and bedtime) and until he got sick last week, he was STTN 7pm to 6 am. Good luck!
