Polycystic Ovaries

CD3 u/s today--NOT my regular RE.  Doc says, "Yes, I see a polycystic ovary on the right and....(turning cam to other side)...a polycystic ovary on the left.  Approx 3-5.  Have you had a hysto*** [can't remember the word], yet?"  I reply no, but I've recently had a biopsy for hyperplasia. Then, no further mention of these polycystic ovaries.

Can anyone tell me what that means?  This is the first time I have heard about this.  What is a polycystic ovary?  What's the difference between a polycystic ovary and PCOS?  Will the 100mg of Clomid I am on right now cause them to grow or rupture or anything?

Ugh...my mom said, "Tell them to take everything out and give you a new uterus.  Tell them you want to start over" lol

Re: Polycystic Ovaries

  • I believe Clomid/injectibles can cause cysts. ?Have you had any blood work done to see if you have PCOS?

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • You need to get yourself to your RE stat and demand more testing for a full diagnosis.  Good luck!

  • I dont have PCOS but do have polycystic type ovaries. It just means I have the ovaries of what a person with PCOS might have.,..lots and lots of follicles, and I do get cysts from time to do due to annovulation.

I believe he said a hysterosalpingogram or a HSG to check to see if your tubes are blocked and the uterus is normal.

Here is some info on. I highly recc. it before starting ANY kind of treatment.

  • Yeah, I had a COMPLETE blood workup about a month ago.  I think they tested just about everything imaginable (15 vials of blood were drawn), everything from rubella and testosterone to fasting insulin, thyroid and kidney function.

Everything was in the normal range, but my testosterone was a 76 and normal is up to 79.  So, he said that is a little on the normal/high side.

Fasting insulin was .1 under the normal range, but he still said that was fine.

    Hyperplasia biopsy came back negative.

    Everything's been fine.

Called my doc a few minutes ago to ask and he said, "If Doc. Mo. were concerned, he would not have let you start the Clomid.  We'll do u/s on 3-30 and see how things are coming along"

    Weird.

Thanks for the info.  My RE did say I had lots of follicles and a lot were "lined up ready to leave the runway" but chronic annovulation has prevented them from "take off."

Hysterosalping.... is what he said, which according to him we would do in the near future if this cycle of Clomid produces no results.

  • My testosterone was 63 and I was told that for a woman around 30 years old, that is high. ?They want to see it around 30 at that age.

I believe the other component to me being diagnosed with PCOS (aside from the u/s showing lots of antral follicles) was the AMH test. ?Mine came back high.

My insulin and all of that is totally normal though.?

polycystic ovaries have nothing to do with lots of follicles.  in fact, polycystic ovaries can impede the development of follicles which is why so many women with PCOS don't ovulate.
