POLL: How often do you and your DH/FI/SO say "I love you"?

DH and I say it everytime we hang up the phone which is a couple times a day, and when leaving in the morning, and before we go to sleep....it's always very non-chalant and I kinda feel like it's losing it's meaning...I wish we didn't make it such a habit....anyone else?

Re: POLL: How often do you and your DH/FI/SO say "I love you"?

  • DH and I say it just as much as you and your DH do.

  • Before he leaves for work we'll say "Have a good day, I love you" and whenever we get off of the phone.

Sometimes we'll say it before falling alseep at night.

  • we're pretty much the same as you but I don't feel like it's losing it's meaning yet.
  • every morning when he leaves the house and every night when i go to bed (im in bed usually an hour or 2 before DH)
  • Same as you... I don't feel like its a habbit.
  • We always say it before leaving or hanging up the phone.  Then just sometimes randomly.  I know what you mean though.  The random ones seem to mean a lot more.  But I'm all morbid and paranoid that something might happen like a car accident or something and I want that to be the last words that we spoke.
  • We say it for the same things you do and then maybe one or two random ones here and there.

  • never in the morning cause he is not a morning person, always at night, on the phone once a day and thats about it except when we write eachother notes which is like 2 times a week
  • Same as you, maybe more. It's not going to have the same butterfly feeling after several years, ya know? Doesn't mean you don't mean it!

  • We have all those routine "I love you"s throughout the day, too.  I try to throw in a random one a few times a day in response to something he does, or says, which I thinks help it keep its meaning.
  • About the same as you.

All I can say is I'd much rather say it all the time than not enough. :)

  • DH and I say it frequently as well, but as accustomed as we are to it, it is very soothing to me and I don't think it's lost it's effect.

  • MH says it ALL THE TIME...I've tried explaining to him that when you say it constantly it doesn't mean as much, but he doesn't get it.  I always say his family is mashed potatoes anyway becuase they're so mushy.  I say it when we get off the phone and maybe before bed...
  • We say it just about as much as you guys do.

  • We say it when we hang up the phone and when we leave for work. I think it's just enough. My parents and the in-laws don't say it that often at all to each other or to us. I think DH and I don't say it too much where it's lost it's meaning, and I hope we say it more to our son then our parents did.

    We do the same thing.

  • We say it a lot...leaving for work, when he gets home, when we go to bed, after we talk on the phone..

    Those are the main times..

  • We say it multpile times a day, I never get tired of hearing DH say that. Also I feel like it has not lost its meaning at all.

  • It's odd, we say it WAY less than most, I think. We very, very much love each other, and both express our feelings pretty well in general, and especially to each other. But I bet we only say the words "I love you" once a week or so. Sometimes it strikes me as weird, but one thing I know is, when one of us says it, we really mean it.

My mom and the rest of my family and I say it every time we hang up. Odd that I tell my mom I love her more than my husband!

ETA: before you think we're total loveless freaks, we do kiss each other hello every morning, every evening after work, and good night every night. Maybe that's our thing?

  • we say it the same..i know some people dont like to say it everytime they get off the phone or w/e bc it looses meaning but ill always know if god-forbid anything happened to one of us, id know we said it.
  • we say it just as much as you two do.

  • We say it all the time.  We even say it sometimes all hateful to each other because it makes us laugh.  To us they are just words; it's actions that solidify what they mean.  Plus we are so disgustingly happy together after 24 years that it's impossible not to know it's love...sweet sweet love.
  • Sorry ladies I'm lurking 3rd tri but I wanted to add my 2 cents.

My Fi and I ALWAYS say I love you when we part or hang up the phone, before bed and randomly throughout the day.

My dad died when I was 6 and that morning when he left for work he never even said goodbye or I love you or kissed my mom because he was grumpy and that was the last time she saw him. So I always make my FI say I love you before we part and usually a kiss too!

  • We say it constantly. The typical times (leaving, coming, etc), plus many times just randomly. I bet we say it to each other about 20 times per day. It definitely isn't loosing it's meaning. It's not the frequency that takes away the meaning - it's saying it as a reflex. That's one reason why we tell it to each other whenever it pops into our heads.

  • Always, right before falling asleep in bed; it's very comforting, and every so often when we feel like it. We're newlyweds though.

We don't say it when hanging up the phone anymore.. we stopped, it kinda did loose it's effect at that point.

This is me exactly. I figure I will regret it the rest of my life if something was to happen to him and I didnt take every chance to tell him how much I love him. I am the same with my family, though. We have always said it as often as we can. Why not? If I love you, I want to tell you all the time. I mean it as much the first time as I do the 10000000000th time.

  • We say it every day but I agree, sometimes it does lose something when you just say it out of habit.  We also say it randomly, like when we are snuggling or in a sweet moment and those times make my heart swell.  Embarrassed
  • Yeah, several times a day.  I think we say it nonchalantly, but I like it that way.
  • We say it about a hundred times a day. Usually he starts it. I'd rather have DH tell me he loves me all the time than never hear him say it.
