If my Dh ever gave me a present I wouldn't decline it. However I do not want or expect a push present. What means the most is that we do this together. I feel the pregnancy is just as much his as it is mine and the baby. I don't think he and I need any more pressure about getting the perfect present for each other right now. We'll need our money for other things for sure.
On another note, I think it would be a nice gesture to have a nice conversation or write a meaningful note to each other about this huge event and next stage in life.
My EDD is Easter day, so I will have an Easter basket ready just in case I go before or on, that way he still has a little easter something. What I do is really small and he doesn't expect it...he pretty much goes along with it because he knows I have fun doing it for him. This is not baby related though.
I asked my Husband for an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen. *grins* But it's obviously a joke and he's not entitled to do it. But I'd each that whole mother sucker if he did.
Push presents rank right up there with Sweetest Day to me. It's a silly idea that the industry has come up with to be able to have another excuse to sell jewelry, candy, etc. I have no want or need for a push present. After we are done having kids, i wouold like a mothers ring/necklace/something....but not for pushing.
i joked with DH about it a long time ago (something about diamonds) but i was joking. he let it slip that he is really stressing about the present and i looked at him like he was crazy...i didnt really think he took me seriously. i mean if he gets me something, thats nice, but i think it would be totally overshadowed by the new member of our family!! (so i think spending $$ would be a waste)
I don't expect a push present. I think it's perfectly fine for a new dad to buy a small, meaningful gift for his wife to celebrate the birth of their child, but the key words here are small and meaningful. I get kinda annoyed when I see women expecting to get diamond jewelry and the like.
That said, I collect those WillowTree figurines for special occasions, and they have a really nice one with a set of parents and a new baby. A long time ago, before we were even expecting, I mentioned to DH that I would like to have that one around the time that we have our first child. If he remembers that and buys it for me, great! If not, that's fine, too.
i'd love one and DH said he's getting me something so who am i to refuse? although i may refuse and vie for a better mother's day gift!
i think the push present thing really depends where you live. i lived in metro NYC for a decade and those people really like their bling! here in philly, i doubt anyone has heard of this push present thing...
if i really wanted something, dh would be happy to oblige but i tend to get really practical (read: miserly) when it comes to spending money on that kind of thing. i feel guilty that i should be putting the money towards something for the baby.
I personally wish DH never even heard the term "push present." He found out about the custom somewhere through the grapevine and I know he feels really guilty that he can't get me anything. (I've been on BR and had to quit my job-thus losing over 60% of our household income...BAH!)
As much as DH's gifts always mean to me,(they are literally my most prized posessions) I think that for people in our situation its just unrealistic / unnecessary.
I expected one. My mom has a ring for each of her daughters that she got. We made it very clear that this was a great idea to him. He asked for a list of things I liked so I sent him some rings I really liked. I think it's neat to be able to hand down...
Maybe I'm a brat for thinking and doing so...but I'm ok with that!
We're a bit strapped for cash right now with the baby on the way so to be completely honest, I'd be a little pissed if my DH spent money on something like that for me right now. Especially since my birthday is only a couple of weeks after my EDD
I do. It doesn't have to be epic, but I want something. I consider it a memento more than anything. My dad bought my mom a piece of art after she had each of us kids, which still hang prominently, and I have always thought it was so sweet. I'm not sure what I would want, but something durable that we can keep always.

I've never heard of this, but I think it's kinda silly. That's like expecting a gift for making good grades in elementary school, completely beyond the point.
I don't expect this from DH, however, he did get me a pretty tahitian pearl necklace as a "becoming a mommy/starting a family" gift, kinda like on Marley and Me. I thought that was sweet, especially since he did the research and knew that pearl was June's birthstone, when baby is due, and that's why he got it.
i dont expect one and if i didnt get one i wouldnt mind. me n DH talked and after my 6 week apt he said he wants to buy me a tanning pack... im not going to decline it.
Heh, we didn't talk about it in terms of it being a gift for me because I'm delivering the baby, but we have agreed that we'll get a housecleaner in before baby arrives....
I'd love one. I think the sentiment is actually very sweet. I'd like to have something from MH that I could wear every day and I dont think it's being bratty or anything else. I think it's nice if the husband wants to get his wife something special for going through all we are going to go through. I know if the roles were reversed, I bet our men would want a little something!
Re: Do you want or expect a "push present"?
Yes, I expect one.
I expect the pain to end.
Hey, it worked with my last 2.
I find this to be such a strange practice.
Hello, the baby is your present for pushing.

A present from DH after you deliver the baby.
DH is getting my Twilight. It's not a push present he's just getting it for me lol
My birthday is the due date and DH said he would like to get me a piece of jewelry. (something small, but still......sweet!)
I joked around and said it was a "push present" and he had a look of confusion on his face.

Oh..... thanks!
baby will be the best gift ever!!!!
In theory, I would like one. But I don't expect one.?
?
I mean, DH didn't get a "thanks for the sperm" present, so I don't really deserve one either!?
Well since I asked the question I guess I should answer...
I would really like something. Nothing big but something that I could pass down to our LO when she is older. I just think that would be sweet.
Of course I agree the biggest present that day is her!
if i really wanted something, dh would be happy to oblige but i tend to get really practical (read: miserly) when it comes to spending money on that kind of thing. i feel guilty that i should be putting the money towards something for the baby.
i bought myself a coach diaper bag. dh said to go get anything i wanted.
i guess it wasn't a push present, but after DD was born i was kinda down and he wanted me to cheer up. It was a great way to have a little fun.

never heard of this before...maybe DH will get me a cutting present...lol
don't expect or want!

I don't expect it... but I want it. LOL.
I told DH that he better get me SOMETHING for carrying this kid for 9 months!! Haha.
I'd really like baby's birthstone in a charm to wear on my necklace.
A clean house!

Best idea ever.
I don't think DH has a clue what a push present is, and if I told him what it is and what I want, then I might as well just buy it myself.
