Cow's Milk=Loose Stool?

DS has now fully transitioned to cow's milk.  For the past few days his bowel movements have been of peanut butter consistency, the color and consistency resembled BM of a newborn on breastmilk.  Did anyone's DC go through this during this transition?  did your DC's BM return back to what I called "smooshed pancakes"?  sorry for associating poo to food.  I hope he's not lactose intolerant.Ick!

Re: Cow's Milk=Loose Stool?

  • DD did at first also. I almost thought it was a stomach virus, still could have been?  It was yellowish/green.  It actually transitioned into constipation.  Great.

  • we are having the opposite problem! we are not fully transitioned, bout half and half, but the past 2 days DD has been making real turds.  but poor thing starts crying and grunting and squatting when getting them out.  she looks at me in such distress i feel awful! i am not sure what to do either.  ugh!
  • We found out DD was lactose interolerant when she was 3 weeks.  We have slowly transitioned from soy formula to milk formula to whole milk.  Since we started completely on whole milk, her BMs have been just as you described, but they are completely different than what she had when she was lactose intolerant.  Not to say that it can't be that as every baby is different, but I would give it several weeks and see if it gets back to normal.  DD was very fussy, gassy, and miserable when she was lactose intolerant.
  • DD had that (up to 7 xs a day). After a week, pedi told us to switch her to soy milk and it stopped immediately. We're assuming it's a lactose sensitivity, because she can have yogurt and cheeses just fine.. I have this problem too.. We are going to try and slowly wean her back to milk in a month or so and see how it goes.

  • This happened to DS as well. He has an allergy to cow milk proteins (probably casein), and does not tolerate drinking that much cow's milk. He drinks either breastmilk (nursing) or gets a mixture of goat milk plus enriched rice milk in a bottle. Goat milk agrees with him well, and his stools have been much more smooshed pancakey/play-doh-ey/normal since putting him back on that combination. GL.
