  They are so expensive brand new. Here is a good resource for used. I tried using them with DD but she had some serious diaper aversions (as did I to the extra laundry) but I did lots of research and this site seemed to be the best for used.

  I've heard of a lot of people buying them used, so I think it's perfectly fine.  If you need more information on how to prep them or if they need extra cleaning, try the Eco-Friendly board.  Those girls are super-helpful!

  I would, but my DH was not on board.  I agree with checking out diaperswappers too.  I would buy them from there before craigslist.

  I'd suck it up and buy new, but I'm a freak about germs etc. I don't know how a diaper service works, do you always get back your same diapers, probably not, haven't researched it though. So maybe it's okay to do, but personally I wouldn't, because I'm a freak.

  It's not a traditional diaper service. You are buying used or swapping out sizes and styles. It's quite cool actually.

  I would. In fact, someone is giving me quite a few diapers she used toward the end of her last daughters' diaper days. I'm using a service, and no, I don't get the same diapers back week after week. I'd suggest washing them in really hot water with bleach (or color-safe) and giving them an extra rinse cycle (to make sure the bleach is out) and then re-washing them with just detergent. It's really not any different than killing any other germs on clothing. JMO.

  Not gross at all!  You wash them in hot water, throw in a cup of vinegar if you want, and line dry them in the sun to bleach the stains out.  I got a lifetime's supply of diapers, liners, and covers on Craigslist for $180.  WHen you consider that disposables for two years can run over $1500 total, I think it's a no-brainer.

  I love buying used cd's for our stash! It's awesome to not have to prep them as much as new, and the $$ savings has been great. I washed them all myself, and really, it's not like other kids haven't had poop/spit up/who knows on the hand me down clothes I got from family and used re-sale shop clothes. Jillian's drawers website takes some stalking (signing up for the email notifications helps) but they have some great used diapers usually once a week. Many of the "fair" conditions I've received from there look brand new.?

  It's fine.  The diaper swappers website that someone posted is a good one.  We actually found my dream diaper service and are starting with her.  She uses a natural cleaning methods, made her own diaper covers (they are awesome--best ones I have seen), upgrades at no charge, $20 a week for 90 diapers and 90 wipes, and she delivers them in a 1950s station wagon.   I don't think there is anything wrong with buying them used as long as they're in good condition. i would, however, wash them really well with bleach and then again without bleach before using them. even though i don't like using bleach in general, for the first wash of used diapers I probably would. i've read some posts about yeast being pretty difficult to get out of diapers, but using vinegar and stripping the diapers seems to work, so the bleach may not really be necessary though.

  you should also make sure you know how to strip diapers because there could be detergent build up on them that will affect how well they absorb. like someone else posted, the eco friendly family board has a lot of info on cloth diapering.

  if you plan to have more kids, you might want to buy them new. this is our first, so i bought new to make sure I got exactly what I wanted and they would last for future kids. my whole stash cost roughly $600 (at the higher end of the range since i went for newborn fitteds and one size pockets instead of just prefolds), which may seem pricey now, but in the long run it is so much more economical than disposables, and even more so when you use them for another child.
