i have the diaper genie...and i worked with little kids and stuff and there is nothing worse than a room smelling like poo...really, it is horrible, so a reg. trash can for me wont cut it! i love that it doesnt smell the room up...
i am not going to be using one. instead i'm just going to get a garbage can with a lid and use that. my brother used one with his first daughter and said it always smelled so bad and it was so nasty when it had to be cleaned and stuff.
I have a Diaper Genie, my sister gave it to me, she swore by it for the first year. Once they start eating mostly people food though, she said that no amount of Genie-ing could hold in the stench. Now, with her 2 yo, she just puts the nasty #2 diapers in an empty grocery bag, ties them up tight, and puts them in the outside garbage right away.
I've always used the diaper champ since it takes regular trash bags. I've NEVER had a problem with the smell. If you change it regularly then you shouldn't.
We actually have a 5-gallon bucket with a lid that we put a normal trash bag in. It might stink some when we take the lid off, but it goes away soon when it's closed up again. It might not be pretty, but it works.
I've heard that the Champ is better in the long run because you don't have to buy special refills - just regular garbage bags.
I assume you're using disposable diapers, right? If you're using cloth, it's easier and cheaper just to use a regular trash can with a washable liner or pillowcase.
We got the diaper champ. This is my 1st baby so we haven't used it yet, but my sister uses one for her now 8 month old and loves it. It never smells and it takes regular trash bags so it's convenient
We got a diaper genie. I used a regular trash can with my DD and it smelled bad!!. I learned my lesson and have been stocking up on diaper genie refills to go with my new diaper genie.
i'm going to get the champ. i've heard mixed reviews on them all. i'll try it in his room first and if it's smelly, i'll stick it by the door in the garage and make hubby take them out to the trash
I registered for a Diaper Champ based on the (mixed) reviews online and in Baby Bargains, but my cousin bought me the Diaper Genie Elite II instead. She said the Diaper Champ didn't keep the smell in when her daughter started solids. She ended up trashing her champ and getting the genie (and she loved it).
I had the champ with DC# 1 and ended up throwing it out. It contained the smell really well (and i also bought the scented trash bags). The problem was that you put the diaper into this case and it flips it into the trash can. Well once my diaper opened while flipping and the poop got all over the sides of the flippy thingy. It smelled horrible (because i didn't realize for a few days).
I'm going with the genie this time. I have dogs and cats. If i used a regular trash can, dirty diapers would be everywhere.
i registered for (and someone has purchased!) the diaper dekor- i have no reviews yet obviously, but i picked it because of the baby bargains reviews and because it turns into a normal push pedal trash can so i figured if they are all iffy on working, why not get one that turns into something usable later
