Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Q for those who did make-ahead/freezer meals....

Are they really the saving grace that I keep being told they are?

I've done some today, want to do more tomorrow, and also want to do some baking, but am finding it more like a chore. (Even though I LOVE cooking/baking).

I really should have done them sooner than at 38 wks pregnant.....

Please tell me they'll be worth it!

  • I didn't do them, but I really wished I had.

  • Yes completely worth it.  Lots of nights i spent hours trying to get Audrey to bed and the last thing I wanted to think about was making dinner.  It helped to not have to resort to eating out every night!

  • Yes they were definitely worth it. ?Made at least one thing easy during the first week. ?I wish we had made more. ?

  • Totally worth it.  I didn't make any but wish I had.
  • I wish I had also, we were lucky and my aunt and mother in law made us a few dinners for the first two weeks. I had just enough time those first couple weeks to reheat the meal.
  • WORTH IT! ?But not for the reason you probably thought!

I loved it because there was no way in he!! I wanted to go grocery shopping the first few weeks - and it is a PITA to send DH with a list.

If you run out of time, see if you have a local take-n-bake place. ?I did some meals myself, but also stocked up on meals from Super Suppers

    www.supersuppers.com?

  • I didn't get a chance to make them and I really wish I had. We ended up ordering take out sooo much. Another thing you should do is really stock up on non-perishables....no one is going to feel like grocery shopping, our pantry was bone dry after a couple weeks!

  • We didn't do it but my mom and sis came by every day to cook/bring food over.  I was so tired the first few weeks that the last thing I wanted to do was cook.  DD is a month old and I'm just now starting to have the energy to get out to shop/cook.
  • that is 1 piece of advice i give if asked... make freezer meals for yourself. i didnt do it & my sil drove down w/ a cooler filled w/ them. i have to say it was the best baby gift  we recieved!
  • VERY worth it.  We didn't do it, I wish we had.  I luckily had my father staying with us for the first month, so he cooked dinner for me every night and did the dishes (DH works at night).  It was a life-saver.  I also love to cook, but finding the time to eat let alone cook between feedings when the baby is fussy is sometimes impossible.
  • Yeah, we planned on it, and then Eli came two weeks early.  they are totally a saving grace, keep cooking!!  I am so lucky that dh has taken the past two weeks off, but even with him here, we've been eating mostly food that people have brought us, or he'll run out for take out.

  • I did not do them and we were fine, some coworkers did bring by a few meals, but that was it.  All of our family is 6 plus hours away so we just made it work.  I usually made one big meal on the weekend and we had that for leftovers a few nights otherwise we ate a lot of quick stuff....PB&J, turkey sandwiches, Mac & Cheese, etc.

    completely, totally, 100% worth it.

Our neighbors threw us a "freezer meals" shower. It was probably the best one we had. Otherwise, I think we would have eaten cereal and granola bars for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

     what a great idea!

  • Thanks for the reassurance and motivation.

Back to the kitchen I go. Smile

  • Yes worth it. It is a chore but you'll be glad you did it. The first week our in-laws were here and cooked every meal but after that we were on our own. I was so happy to have a stocked freezer to not have to make a trip to the store or think about cooking anything.
  • I only made a few things- chili and ziti. I think it depends on how much your family will feed you after too- our families kept us fed for a MONTH. No joke!!!

It was nice to have easy stuff like frozen skillet meals and pasta too!
