XP: About reflux...

Sooo, I am EBFing and my baby has probably spit up a total of 2 or 3 times before today: Today she has spit up 3 times, quite a substantial amount too. Sometimes when feeding she grunts and pulls off and then gets back on...she never really cries or screams or anything, but she does fuss at times. I thought it was just that the let down was too forceful and she was frustrated, but after reading some posts on here I am wondering if this could be reflux...for those of you who have babies with reflux, how did you know?

  • One day of a lot of spit up isn't enough to make it reflux. That sounds like it's probably her reacting to something you ate. If she's generally eating well, it's probably fine. Reflux symptoms were much more dramatic than that for us, and my DD wasn't gaining weight.

  • All babies spit up to some extent, but as long as they are a "happy spitter" it's ok.

DS has reflux and he would pull off, arch back and scream bloody murder while nursing. Also screaming after eating, and if he spit up. We could hear wet burps as well with stuff coming  up his throat, but not coming out.

As far as his spitting up, it was enough to soak both of us and my nursing pillow, plus he would spit up for hours after a feeding- not just right after.

  • Thank you, this makes me feel better...I am totally the paranoid new mom. She seems much better today and never has the dramatic symptoms, so I am sure it was something I ate.
