about your house...

How many feel that your house is always "guest ready" and you wouldn't mind guests stopping in at any time?  What do you define as guest ready?

I am bored and curious since sleep doesn't seem to be something in my past OR future.

My answer:  I think my house is always okay for guests to pop in.  If I were having a dinner party or a social event, I would feel the need to do more deep cleaning type things that I only do every week or month (e.g., clean baseboards type of stuff).

Re: about your house...

  • Lately, my house has been a disaster. If someone stopped by, I'd be completely embarrassed.  Normally, I'm a neat freak so the house would be presentable.

  • I think my house is always ready for guests. I have really bad OCD when it comes to cleaning. I clean for at least 20 mintues before work, and I literally clean up until I go to bed. It is really sad, but the house always looks good!
  • I am a neat freak, so my house is always ready for company.  That being said, I honestly don't mind if someone sees one dirty plate in the sink, and if my son's bedroom is messy, I just close the door.

Lately it's been clean around the clock though, because it's on the market, so if someone calls and wants to come see it, it has to be ready to do a walk-through.

  • Our house is also a disaster area.  We're getting better though.  My goal is to keep the house in a state where it is "guest ready".  We're about halfway there right now.

  • To any normal person, my house would be guest ready...but since I'm an OCD nutjob, I like advance warning of guests coming so I can run through the house like a banchee and make sure it looks perfect and clutter free.  This drives my DH nuts...and I fear it will only get worse once we have kids and their stuff is everywhere...it kinda gives me anxiety thinking about it now.
  • Recently my house is NOT guest friendly.  It's a mess.  With the rain we just had and the dogs, the wood floors are so dirty and I don't have the energy or time to do a deep clean.  DH used to help, but his work schedule has made it so we hardly see eachother, so now when we're together, we spend the time together, instead of cleaning...

  • we had a bathroom under construction for several months (finished around new years).    Now we have the Nursery under construction.  Walls have been torn down, holes cut in the ceiling to run wiring, dust everywhere.

small accumulation of baby stuff in boxes in the living room - since there isn't a room ready for it yet.

nope.   not guest ready for a while.   It's a mess.

  • Ever since I got pg with #2 my house is a mess. I just dont have the energy at the end of the day to keep it clean.?
  • I think our house is always ok for someone to drop by but I do tend to do more indepth cleaning if we know people are coming. I am not a neat freak by any means but I also have no problem with someone coming by and seeing dishes in the sink or that I need to vacuum if they are dropping in unannounced.
  • The past couple days, my house is totally guest ready, but that's because we had a showing yesterday.  On a normal bases, the main living areas would be okay, but I wouldn't be taking anyone into the bedrooms.  I'm not as neat as I dream I am.
  • I am a total freak. I say that I like to keep my house 30 minutes from spotless at all times. So, I would say yes.

  • I would say that our house is generally guest ready.  We have a maid every other week and that really helps keep the clutter down.  Also, our house is on the market right now so it is always at the ready.  We pick up every night.  I'd love to keep the habit, but I really doubt that will happen once we move, but it never gets so bad that I would be embarrassed.

  • Our house is usually always guest ready.  DH has allergies so I dust frequently throughout the week and deep clean every Saturday morning.  I am weird and hate for people to show up unannounced because we have all hardwood floors and a big black dog.  I always try to do a quick clean over the floors at least once a day but it doesn't always happen especially here lately with my fat swollen cankles.
  • the last 10 weeks, my house is not even close to pop in guest ready.
  • My house is not guest ready..but even when I deep clean I never feel it is clean enough. In all honesty if I get a call that someone is stopping by it takes me less then 30 minutes to make it presentable and most of the time its presentable anyway..but its all in my head. My house is cleaner then most people that stop by anyway but I always want it magazine photoshoot ready.

Everyone tells me this will change when I have kids. Even when my 2 yo nephew lives with us for 6 months, I was still that way though..actually MORE so.

  • If someone just wants to pop in, all I have to do is straighten the couch cushions, and kick the dogs outside.  But, if people are actually coming over for an event, I would have to mop, clean baseboards, windows...you know, the deep cleaning.  But I typically clean on Saturday mornings, and then just straighten up during the week.  DH is a total neat freak, so I have to try to keep order around the house.  So I guess you could say it is guest ready...just not party/shower/important event ready.

  • Wow.  I need to invite some of you OCD ladies over to my house to clean, but I'm too embarrassed.  Embarrassed

Oh pick me! I'll come! I won't judge.  I just want to induce labor and cleaning can do the trick.  I hear baseboards are the way to go!

This is me in a nutshell, but I like to think I'll be a little bit more easy going when we have kids...time will tell. Stick out tongue

  • My house is always a disaster but it's not disgustingly filthy. I have 3 boys under the age of 7 and a dog and cat that are hyperactive, so most people understand why my house looks like a tornado went through it..lol!
  • It's not now, but we just moved and are still getting settled.  But usually it's ready for most people.  If my mother or the ILs are coming, however, it must be spotless.  Good thing they live 300 miles away and can't just appear!

  • My house is almost always guest ready. Not spotless, and probably at times not what I would want just anyone to see but never bad enough that I wouldn't want someone to come in.

DH is pretty much a clean freak and can't stand clutter, so he's good about picking up after himself (and me). Our bedroom on the other hand is debateable, since I tend to use my dresser as a clothes hamper until I can't find what I want and then do laundry/organize! But hardly ever does anyone go in our room.

  • About 2 weeks ago, I would have said no. However, when my mom moved in 2 weeks ago, things got cleaned and somehow stayed clean. I guess because I didn't want her doing all of the cleaning, I was more motivated to get off my ass and get cleaning.
