3rd Trimester

Did you fast before the 1 hour?

My Dr told me to fast before my 1 hour  tomorrow morning but it seems like a lot of people were told to eat a high protein breakfast. Did you fast before your 1 hour? Did you pass? Thanks!!

Re: Did you fast before the 1 hour?

  • See... my doc told me not to. This is so weird! So many conflicting practices for different doctors!

  • Nope.  I had a b-fast burrito (one of my fav. meals.)  My number was 88.
  • I have my 1 hour tomorrow, too...I was given specific instructions NOT to fast and to eat normally leading up to it (i.e. no high protein or other dietary restrictions).

  • I took an early one, which I was told not to eat anything high in carbs, and then a second one, which I was told to fast since it gave more accurate results. If your doctor said to fast, I would fast.
  • my Dr said to have a normal breakfast, so I did.  Frosted mini wheats and OJ.  I passed.

  • Yeah I did fast, it was a 9:00 appointment so they told me to skip breakfast if I could but if I got dizzy to eat.
  • yes i was told nothing 1 hour prior to test. i would do what your dr says. a lot of glucose tests are different. different dose amount......whether its a drink or a candy bar. i would follow the orders for the one you are taking.

  • I was told to fast before my 1 hr.

    I passed.

  • I did not fast, and I failed.
  • My doctor said not to, but said not to eat anything sugary the morning of, and to not eat about an hour and a half before the test because it could alter the results.
  • I was told to do exactly whatever it is I'd normally do.  So, I ate a "normal" lunch for me, and had the one-hour glucose test about 2-1/2 hours later... for no particular reason other than that the lab is between work and home, and I stopped there on my way home from work.

  • I didn't eat or drink anything after midnight... then when I took the test (around 11) they told me I could have had something... I passed though.
  • Just do what you would normally do. Your doctor needs to see how your body reacts to your usual diet.
  • my doctor told me to eat what i usually eat (a bagel with cereal) and i failed.. but i passed the 3 hour
  • I had a "pop" test (they did at my apt but didn't warn me). Of course, I had eaten three thin mints right before my apt. My doctor said it wouldn't matter. Sure enough, I passed with flying colors.

As a side note: Bring food to eat after they do the blood draw.  I was dizzy and nauseous after the test until I got home and ate.

  • Mine told me not to fast.  I had my usual breakfast.  Failed the 1 hour and take the 3 hour on Monday.  They are having me follow a high carb diet Fri - Sun and fast Sunday night.
  • Mine told me to eat normally, and have a good breakfast with protein (not super sugary stuff) - I passed with flying colors.
  • my doctor said a 12 hour fast, i failed horribly, but passed the 3 hour test two days later with anothe 12 hour fast.
  • I ate 2 bires of egg whites then drank drink.had nothing for that hour and still failed!!! cut off was 130 I was 180! poo

  • I've heard a lot of conflicting advice, too, even from within the dr's office!  I DID eat, though, because I really didn't think I'd do well fasting.  (as in I'd get sick to my stomach.)  I ate my normal breakfast of 3 eggs.  Don't know if I passed yet or not, though, because I haven't heard my results yet.  I'm planning on calling tomorrow to find out.
  • my dr. didn't tell me to- but i did..

  • My doctor didn't tell me anything.

My mom (who is a type 1 diabetic) told me that it doesn't really matter, if your body is working correctly and processing sugars correctly then you should pass whether you eat before it or not.

  • I have mine tomorrow morning too, and the only thing my MW said was to not eat a huge breakfast. I think I'll just have some eggs and toast.
  • I was told to have meat or eggs for breakfast.
