2nd Trimester

What freaking bottles to register for????

I have my registry complete besides what feeding system I going with. I have not been truly confused up until this point.  Do you go with glass or trust that the BPA free plastic bottles and trust that they don't release any chemicals when cleaned or heated.  Then what freaking brand do you go with!!!!  HELP!!  Please tell me what you are going with and why.

Re: What freaking bottles to register for????

  • I would recommend trying a few different bottles and nipples...some babies are very picky about which ones they will or won't feed from. Best to let your little one "tell" you what they like before you buy too many of one kind.

  • hello!!!

i went Dr Browns after seeing my SIL and nephew in action with them.  the pluses:  BPA free (which i trust, but if you don't feel comfortable they have glass as well) and the vent system is said to reduce gas and colic.  i like that the baby still has to WORK to get the milk, much like breastfeeding (as i plan on doing both breast and breastmilk in bottles.)  the worry is, if he/she gets used to the bottle and the milk flows to easily, they forget that they need to work to breastfeed.

the downside on Dr Browns: there are more pieces to clean.  (because of said vents.)

  • I'd register for a small pack of three different kinds.  You never know what your baby will like, and that way you at least have three different ones to try, and not a ton of bottles that will never be used again.

    ditto
  • Ditto MidwestTexan.

Just get one of a few different kinds.  We learned the hard way with DD when some of the more common kinds (at the time) didn't work.

  • I registered for Dr. Brown's in different sizes. So if they don't work, I'll take the unused ones back and get a different kind.
  • I used Dr Browns with my son- I exchanged them for Dr Brown's BPA Free ones for this baby.

I got a mix of glass and plastic.

  • It's just a personal thing for me but I am using glass. I also plan on breastfeeding so hopefully I won't need too many bottles

  • my best friend is on baby #4 and she told me to get the Avent bottles. they are wider and have wider nipples. She said that all of her kids have liked them. I know my nephew was very picky about the nipple/bottle he would use and we ended up having to use the same bottle over and over again (which was a b*tch cuz you had to sterilize every time...) because we couldn't find anymore like it anywhere.
  • The baby will most likey choose which ones they prefer. But I will have a couple backups for him to try. My favorite so far is the Nuby Natural Touch - made especially for breast feeding babies. Everything I've read up on them is really cool and I've even bought one to play with and look at and inspect myself. There are 2 kinds - the silicone one can be squeezed like a drop-in bag. It's really neat!
  • Tried a bunch of different kinds with DS, ended up with Dr. Browns, by far the best bottles out there.  Not even considering anything else with this baby.
  • The sales lady at Buy Buy Baby (who is, admittedly, my only source on this topic) told me that Dr. Browns and Born Free were the best b/c of the blah-blah-blah, good for colic, causes less gas.  For some reason that I don't think she articulated, she seemed to prefer Dr. Brown's.
  • JMO, but as soon as my niece was gifted the Born Free bottles and I fed her with those, I knew that's what I wanted! That was back when no one but Whole Foods carried them, and they were actually more expensive. They are BPA free, I'm going with plastic just for comfort's sake, although I may try the glass too b/c I ffel like they're easier to clean, and I feel like she never had gas or colic again after her parents switched. One tip my SIL passed along: they really used the smaller bottles more. She couldn't drink a whole 8 oz in a sitting.
Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
  • my friend said to just register for these and then see what the baby prefers since she bought a bunch of bottles ahead of time and then her baby didnt like that particular kind. Oh and i wont go with glass bc i just have visions of that going badly with how clumsy I am..regardless of how resilient they are.
