Thoughts on Liliana...

DH and I both like the name Liliana (with Lily as a nn) but are concerned that it might sound too juvenile once she's an adult. Thoughts? Any other possible nicknames that would work as an adult?

Re: Thoughts on Liliana...

  • I think the name Lily is fine for an adult, and if she wants to go by Liliana when she's older, that's fine, too.  You could also call her Liana, which is a pretty name all on it's own, too.  I taught a Lianna who pronounced it Lee-anna (with the first "a" pronounced like in the work "and"), but you can pronounce it Lee-ah-nuh (with the middle syllable pronounced "on"), too.  I think Liliana is a very pretty name, and not too common, either.

  • Liliana sort of strikes me as going out of its way to be fancy-schmancy.  Lilian is a perfectly respectable name; I don't think it needs the extra syllable.  That said, I think Lily is more than fine for an adult.  It doesn't sound juvenile to me at all.
  • Liliana is pretty. If you're going to call her Lily, why not just name her Lily?

My cats name is Liliana and we call her Lily. I think Liliana is a beautiful name and Lily is really cute. When she's an adult she can go by either and they both sound fine for an adult.
  • I really like Liliana!
  • My friend's daughter is Lilyanna... when she's older she could go by lily or anna.  They call her Lily as a nn.

I like it, but it's nms.

  • What about Lila as a nick name
  • Seems to me like Lily is becoming an acceptable first name in its own right, so I think Lily is a fine nn. If she decides she wants something "more mature" sounding, she can use her full name. Ana (Anna) also makes complete sense as a nn for Liliana.
  • I like Liliana.  I think it works well at all ages.

I agree but she could always go by Lily which sounds  alittle more mature.
  • nms, but I think it works fine for a child and an adult.?
  • My DD's name is Liliana.  We decided on it because DH's favorite name was Lily and mine was Anna.  I thought Lily was a bit too juvenile if she were to become a high-powered corporate woman and that Lillian was a little stodgy.

We call her Lily, Lil or Lila....

  • Pretty.  My goddaughter is named Lilia, but they do not call her Lily.  Lilia is very beautiful, in my opinion.
  • I love the name Liliana and I am also big on nns.  I think Lily, Lil, Lilia and Ana are all great nns for Liliana and only Lily seems like a little girl's name to me.
  • I like just plain Lily
