I think the stuff from Target is WAY cuter. I also can't stand the Walmart clientele. Call me a snob, but it absolutely drives me batty when I go in to Walmart and have to navigate the store with so many sniveling little children running around. The parents are oblivious to their little brats and I end up leaving the store annoyed EVERY time. I'd rather pay a little more and shop at Target. IMO, Walmart attracts some very undesirable folks. I refuse to shop there unless I absolutely cannot go elsewhere.

Well, of course when you watch something NEGATIVE about Wal-Mart, you will come to THAT conclusion. Try watching something BOTH NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE. There are always 2 sides to every story.
I used to HATE walmart back home... the walmart there to me was just dirty. But since I've moved, I LOVE walmart for things. We have a Walmart SuperCenter and its really clean, the people are all very friendly, and you can't beat the prices. Where I live there are a ton of locally owned small businesses and everyone seems to be doing well. I still love my Target though, but sometimes it's just cheaper to go to walmart. I will be ordering my crib, and other things from walmart.com though for sure!
I worked for Wal-Mart one summer in college, because in my hometown all the small family businesses that used to makeup the downtown business district and hire college students to help out in the summer had closed down within about five years of WalMart opening just down the highway. I quit after two and a half months because I was constantly being asked to work off the clock, skip legally required breaks, by clocking out for them but then working anyway, and the topper, I was friends with a girl whose dad was in a union and she brought some union stuff to work one day and she got fired a week later for a bogus offense. The day she got fired my manager gave me this huge lecture about how evil unions are and how I should be careful whom I associate with.
I work for a large electronics retailer now and they would never do any of the things that WalMart did/does, so I don't agree that all employers treat you badly. My benefits are fair, I get paid for the time I work, and if I'm off the clock, then I'm off the clock and I don't work.
I haven't given WalMart a single penny since that summer, I will not shop there, I will not patronize them and I do not believe that the Walton family has anyone's interest in mind but their own. This country would be a better place if WalMart had neve gotten out of Arkansas.
While it would be great to not shop at a certain store due to high moral fiber or standing up for unfair employment practices... I can't afford not to!
I have to shop at the cheapest place. I don't get my produce there b/c it's nasty- but all my groceries come from Walmart. It's the way I have to live... oh well.
I like that Walmart has everything for the baby that Babies R Us has and at better prices, I also like that if I shop at Walmart and Target online for baby items vs. shopping at Babies R Us I can get Upromise money in my Upromise account and the baby can go to college someday.
As a small business owner, Walmart sucks the life out of small businesses and if you look at their strategies, ya well that's what they seek to do. There are several documentaries that I've seen regarding the Nation of Walmart and the destructiveness of the corporation. It's pretty much wiped out main street America.
I will see if I can find the names. Here in Canada, we get a lot of documentaries about the US made often by US citizens that you probably never see. Tres interesting.
So, despite my step dad working there, I refuse to support Walmart.
Business is business! It's a shame that so many people hate them just for succeeding.

I completely agree! In some smaller towns Wal-Mart is a GREAT way for people to make a living. My home town also only has Wal-Mart and I bought everything there.. I still do becuase they really do have a lot of great stuff for affordable prices.
Do you know WHY though? It's because WalMart made it so they're the only store LEFT in small towns. I'd be willing to bet 99.9% of people who work at Walmart do it because they HAVE to/it's the only option. That doesn't mean it's a good work environment, they're treated fairly, etc. But WalMart made it so that's their only option, so they can get away with poor standards in terms of employee treatment. If you think that's something to give them a gold star about, that's pretty sad.
Actually, no. A lot of people in small towns WANT to work for Walmart
BECAUSE they offer healthcare and a decent wage. Smaller companies
can't afford to offer the same benefits that Walmart can.
You might also want to get up to speed with what they offer these days. They have completely changed their benefits packages and have been given kudos for the steps forward they have made to supply their employees with affordable options.
With all the talk about "poor employee treatment" I should think that you must work there? If not, how would you know? Repeating what you've heard on the news? How about researching both sides of the story before making such an ignorant assumption?

LOL!!!! I'm not the only one saying EXACTLY what the movie showed, and that's why I stated "make up your own mind"
I don't shop there because of ALL the reasons listed in this post, and from personal experience, not just the documentary.

There are only one or two near me (where there are more than a handful of Targets) and they are generally dirty, crowded and messy. The savings isn't worth the annoyance of going to Walmart for me.
I have never, nor do I know anyone who has worked for Walmart... so as far as the "horrible treatment of their employees"... I can't say since all I've heard has been in the media (and we all know how one-sided the media can be )
I simply refuse to even set foot in a Walmart because it's absolutely filthy, disgusting, the clientele makes me fear for my life, and their products are cheap.
That is all!
I HEART Target though!

From what I understand, they treat their employees like garbage.
I am a customer service manager at a PA Wal-Mart, but I know atleast in my store, we treat everyone with respect. It is one of our company's biggest beliefs, respect for the individual. There are great benefits, like daily incentives, quarterly bonuses and 401k, profit sharing, discounts, etc to say the least. I enjoy working for Wal-Mart. Customers complain about waiting in line, but it puts more money in my pocket! We always have all of our 35 registers opened all day and all night! Wal-Marts out here in PA are always clean. I understand complaints, but if you don't stand for something you'll fall for just about anything. If you see a problem bring it up to a manager or call home office. Those calls are not ignored.
