c-section mommies how is recovery going?

I ended up with an emergency c-section after trying to push DS out for three hours and after rough labor for 18 hours. Now a week later I am feeling somewhat back to my old self. How long did it take you to feel like a normal person again? I am thankfully off pain meds except ibuprofen. Just curious what other people's experiences are. tia

  • 6 weeks until I felt "normal" and didn't have the soreness in my abs from pressure. I couldn't wear any pants with a waistband that wasn't SUPER elastic (couldn't even wear some of my maternity pants) before that. It still hurts a bit when using those muscles, but I'd say between 6-8 weeks I felt like my old self again (with a lot more flabby skin).

  • By a month I was feeling pretty much back to normal; its almost a month right now and I'm feeling about 95% back to normal; just some soreness if I exert myself too much. I was off all meds by a week and a half, and was feeling pretty much completely back to normal by two months.

  • Though it was painful, my recovery went great! I just worked through the pain gradually. I still feel little twinges here and there when nerves are reconnecting, and I don't do things too quickly or carry things too heavy yet. But I have my energy, and feel great.

LOL. I can already tell that will be the case here too Stick out tongue

  • I would say it took me 2 weeks to feel "normal" again.  And by normal, I mean I could get in/out of bed without pain and go up and down stairs to do laundry.  I still have quite a belly but I'm hoping it will go down more soon.  I also had a lot of fluids pumped into me because I went through 8 hrs of labor (nothing compared to your 18) and then had a c section.  I also spiked a fever after the surgery so it took me awhile to get rid of all the fluids.

    Good luck with your recovery!

Same here! It still hurts when I use those muscles and if I push on my tummy its still a little tender, but in general I feel great and pretty much back to myself....just can't fit into any non maternity pants!?

  • I felt normal after about a week, but it's easy to over do it.  If I'm up and down alot or carry groceries, I get a little sore in my abs.  I do carry things heavier than the baby - like groceries or the baby in the car seat, so I guess it's my own fault.
  • I started feeling good about 1 week pp however, now 2 wks and 4 days later I feel bad/sore and am bleeding again.  Also, my insision is bleeding.  Must have pushed myself too much!
