I had the exact same thought today. I'd probably burn them in the oven. Do you have a crock pot? I was thinking of throwing them in there, and disregarding the water.
I 2nd the crockpot idea. I kept burning my carrots on the stove so I put them in the crockpot with some water and a little apple juice for flavor. Just disgard the liquid.
Really, burned pears while steaming? I steam almost everything including carrots which I am doing now and have no trouble. Are you using a basket to steam? If not, I would get one, the ones that sit in your pot are pretty cheap and use that so you shouldn't have burning issues. Good Luck!
Re: instead of steaming can I just bake carrots?

Keep any water you cook them in and puree the carrots and water together. Most of the vitamins that leech out during cooking are in the water.
Why boil pears? I just peel them and blend them in the magic bullet with water and rice cereal.
just FYI you are not supposed to keep the water that you boil the carrots in due to the nitrates.
Also, you are supposed to cook all fruits and veggies other than banannas and avocados.
I got my info from

Raw fruits are better for mature tummies.
But when you cook them for your DC, the proteins that have the potential to be allergenic are altered and no longer pose as much of an allergy risk.
