How much do you spend on a friend's baby's first birthday gift?

We're going to two babies' parties and I'm not sure how much to spend.  They'll also be coming to my son's party, so I don't want to end up spending more money than they plan on spending because that can create an uncomfortable situation.  Considering there will be MANY more birthday parties that DS attends down the road, I don't want to spend too much this early in the game.

    I spent about $75 on my bf's daughter last month. In general, I spend about $50.

    I would say $25-30 unless they are close friends of yours babies, then maybe up to $50. ?You can get alot of baby "things" for $30...IMO

    For my BFF's DD, I spent about $50 total, but I had also practically created her entire wardrobe during that first year! :)  That was before I had my own DD.  For BFF I will prob always spend that much, but for anyone else prob only about $15-20.

    For my BFF probably $50 but for any other kids we know it would be closer to $20-$30

    I would say for the most part I will spend about $30.  But if I am really close probably a little more.
