Thank you so much for thinking of us! I'm sorry I couldn't post earlier. I had a hard time getting online at the hospital, and have been so tired from sleeping in a chair there the last 3 nights! The good news is that we are finally home after being treated for a week for vomiting, diarrhea and severe dehydration.
On his first visit to the ER last Thursday, after 9 sticks (including attempts from PICU nurses) they couldn't get an IV line, had us go back to oral hydration with a syringe, and then sent us home the next morning without admitting us. Two days later we went back, and were told that if they couldn't get a line again, they were going to put a line straight into his bone, or go through his neck. Luckily, using the wonderful advice provided by you all, PICU nurses were able to get a line using UV lights, ultrasound, and heating packs.
We were admitted Sunday, and after some setbacks, were able to take him home last night. It's been 36 hours since his last severe vomiting episode, so I think he has turned the corner.
I am so glad to be home, but can't stop thinking about all the other kids on his floor and in the PICU who won't be coming home anytime soon.
Thank you again for thinking of us.
