Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Dr. said can't split up the MMR anymore

I am following the Dr. Sears schedule and Dr. said today at my DD's 9 month appointment that we can not split up the MMR anymore, they are not making the separate shots.  I was surprised by this anyone else hear this?

  • Last I heard, they are still manufacturing them, but they are not easy to come by. You have to do some sort of special ordering.

  • I haven't heard that, at our Dr. Appt, they said we still could, although she didn't recommend it

  • Dr. Sears even mentions this on his site.  One suggestion if you are really concerned about this is to delay it a bit.  I don't have any issues but the Dutch schedule does it at 14 months which is later than the US I think.

  • We were considering the MMR together anyway because DD will being going to daycare at 15 months, so I think we would have to anyway.

    I was just surprised.

  • I did hear that.  I heard that if you've already started the course of them split up, you can get the ones you need and that's it.  So, if you've already gotten Measles, you can still get the Rubella and Mumps separately.  But, if you're just starting, you can't get them split.

We delayed until 2yrs and didn't split, but I know some people who have kids my older DD's age and they did split and they were told they were fine, but it wasn't going to be available anymore.

  • Our practice told us up front they could not order them separate.  They purchase as part of a group and so they can only order MMR together.  We will have to have our Pedi write an RX for it and even then it comes in packs of 10 and has to be admin. by a nurse?  Not sure of all the details, our pedi gave us a handout.

  • I was told the same thing at her 6 month appt. Our pedi's office will not order them, but they will allow you to order and pay for them yourself and bring them. She said they no longer make it.

  • I just learned this at DD's 9 mo appointment yesterday.  I'm not sure what we're going to do, b/c we are also following Dr Sears delayed schedule.  We will probably do MMR at 18 months.
