Baaaaad cramps = Braxton Hicks? Help!!

I started getting period-like cramps about an hour ago.  It's in my lower back and pelvic area.  They're really painful and freaking me out because I haven't felt anything like this yet in pregnancy.  Is this what Braxton Hicks feels like?  I called my Dr's office and told them...I'm waiting for the Dr to call back.  TIA!!!

Re: Baaaaad cramps = Braxton Hicks? Help!!

  • I was right there last night. When I have BH they do no feel the same as what I was having last night. Last night they were way lower down in my belly and they were exactly like when I have my period cramps. They eventually went away. I e-mailed my NP yesterday and she said it was very normal for this stage in pregnancy. Hope your dr. calls back soon.

  • I started getting cramps around the same time.  It can be a sign of PTL, so it's important to talk to your doctor, but in my case it was just caused by stretching.  My doctor did an internal to make sure.
  • It's probably BH.  The NP at my office told me to drink a ton of water when they get strong, like 3 or 4 big glasses.  She said sometimes they get bad if you are dehydrated.  I hope you hear back from your doc soon.
  • Have a glass of water and lie down on your side. See if the cramps go away.

  • I wish I could lie down, but I'm at work (trying to get the necessary stuff done in case I have to go to the Dr's office).  I feel like I've been drinking plenty of fluids (looots of water), but who knows.  I still haven't heard from the Dr's office.  Ugh.  The cramps are still there.  They haven't been this bad since I was in high school - this sh!t's the reason I went on the pill in the first place!
  • Good idea to call your doctor - they may want you to come in just to be safe. I also got some cramps around week 25. My doctor also said BH can get worse if you need to go to the bathroom, so lots of fluids and keeping an empty bladder help. Good luck!
  • Yep, I've been getting those. Definitely keep hydrated and try to change your position and see if that alleviates them. For my practice, they want me to call if more than 4/hour. Good Luck.
