Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What the heck?? DS hates his changing table???

All of the sudden, in the past week and a half, Sam HATES being put on his changing table for diaper changes, clothes changes... it's horrible!  He was never like this and always would just babble and smile while I was changing him.  Now as soon as we walk over to it, he clings to me for dear life and starts bawling and kicking away from it!  It's so sad!  I have no idea what could have changed or happened??  Any advice is appreciated... I hate putting him up there but if I put him on the floor, he's off like a bandit in 2 seconds!

  • this just started 2 days ago for us, I would love some advice too

  • Any signs of an ear infection?  Does he fuss when you lay him down on anything else?
  • We have not been able to use the changing table for at least two months. ?I wish I had suggestions, but diaper changes and clothing changes are like a WWE wrestling match for us
  • No, but he's not a back layer (is that a word?) anyway.. he sleeps on his tummy.  No pulling or tugging the ears, not a fussy baby at any other time.  He's so good natured and just pretty happy go lucky?
  • As soon as DS started really crawling and pulling himself up on things, diaper and clothing changes are nearly impossible - I don't even try to get him on the changing table, it's easier to wrestle him on the floor or in my lap.
  • We have a bar that hangs on the wall above the changing mat that I keep toys hanging from.  I change them up every now and then and he only gets to play with those toys when he's getting his diaper changed.  It's worked pretty well so far.  Let me see if I can find a picture.
  • What a cute idea, thanks!!  We have a mirror there but maybe I could find some toys that suctions to it.  And possibly just move to the floor... I'd rather wrestle him than have him so upset.  Good to know it's not just us.  Thanks girls!
  • I get her as close to naked as possible while she is standing up.  Then stick her on the changing table and give her a diaper change only toy.  And work quickly.  Wardrobe changes are usually done on the floor and take several minutes.

  • my daughter has been doing this since she was able to sit up. she hates to lay down on her back now unless it is on her terms.  i just giver her a travel size bottle of baby lotion(something she is not normally allowed to play with), and it keeps her busy, i just have to be fast!
  • DD has been doing this lately. I had no idea what was going on. She used to LOVE her changing table. Maybe it's b/c she'd rather roll & sit up.
  • Oh, and my DS also likes to play with bottles sometimes and that can help. ?He especially likes the rubber part of medicine droppers (b/c he is teething). ?I agree with the others...even with this trick you have to work really quickly
